No. You just use it to craft special items (worm food, suspicious eye, nights edge).

Hornets are now more dangerous for me. I actually got down to 1 HP and then didn't die, somehow. Also it really seems like they upped to occurrence of man eaters and whatever varieties there are.

they cant potion sicknessify you and you can spam-eat them whenever you want

This game is a bit too much for me. I'd prefer it were it simpler, there's a lot of stuff to learn before I feel I can really enjoy it.

I think I'll just start a small world on softcore and take it slowly.

I would but I have no idea where people get so many fish. I suppose I could see about buying some on the trading board.

Also Flamarang is the most amazing thing ever, I did a 70 critical hit to a hornet. :o
