Can someone tell me where in the ToS it even mentions collecting information?

I searched the ToS for the word collect and none of it mentioned collecting information.

I just opened up the origin installer and it's a different ToS then the one on the website.

Ok wait the ToS in Origin says this:

Sections 1.C and 2 below describe the data EA may collect and use in the course of providing services and support to you in connection with the Application.

C.   License Validation.    The Application and an internet connection are required to validate the license for certain products distributed by EA.  You acknowledge and agree that the Application can automatically validate license rights for some or all EA products without separate notice to you. This means that in order to use the Application and certain EA products, you must leave the Application installed on your computer.  You acknowledge and agree that the Application may use information regarding your computer, hardware, media, software and your use of the Application to validate your license rights and to update the Application.

2.  Consent to Collection and Use of Data.  

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. I read that but I want to know exactly what goes on.

Contest registration and prize acceptance;
Warranty registration and requests;
Customer support and/or technical service requests;
Player match up and other head-to-head online competitions;
Registration for games and/or special game-specific events;
Newsletter subscriptions, referral services, and other marketing surveys and email campaigns;
Registration for EA and/or other service accounts;
Creation of a personal profile;
Product, service and/or subscription orders;
Service requests from third party service providers on our site;
Access to our products and/or services on social networks or other third party services; and
Otherwise through use of our software, mobile or online services where personal information is required for use and/or participation.

That's what they consider grounds for collecting personal information.

Information collected will vary depending upon the activity and may include your name, email address, phone number, home address, birth date, mobile phone number and credit card information.

Steam probably has the bolded also.

That all could be for contests only.

So It's not really that bad.  Keeping track of the hours of a game you play ect is good because it can suggest more games that you might like.  Oh wait doesn't steam do this too?

I hate it when companies try to understand their customers to make better products. I wish all shirt companies would ignore people and just make pink shirts with bunnies.

What does the "original" quality mean on youtube? For me all it does is take 30 minutes to load a 1 minute video.
