Author Topic: Steam account suspended - Payment Dispute  (Read 5752 times)

I got on today after getting back from a 3 day vacation to find a message waiting for me that my account had been suspended due to compromisation. I have over $345.77 worth of games on there, and whoever compromised it has changed my password. I suspect it might be somebody who has had access to my email through illegal means. I'm in the process of contacting Steam support, and hoping that I can get my account back.

EDIT: Before you post, let me make this clear.

My password has not been changed, neither have any of my account credentials including my avatar, name, etc. I do not click on phishing links, and it is unlikely a keylogger made it's way onto my system.

EDIT2: I now believe it is a payment dispute from my mom blocking Steam's charges. My password wasn't changed, neither has my account. I'm still waiting for the email from Steam support about a solution.

If I give Steam the key I got for Humble Indie Bundle, will they be able to reclaim the account? I don't have my Portal 2 key on hand.

can't you contact customer support? and what was that computer unique security system again?

That's my main problem with steam, my hundreds of dollars worth of games can just be taken away from me because of some hacking douches.

I've already submitted a ticket. I'm gonna have somebody take a look at my account to see what has been changed.

EDIT: Strange. Nothing has been changed, but I can't log in to my account. I've tried copy-pasting my password from notepad to Steam, but it still doesn't work.

EDIT2: Also, I can't reset my password. Steam says that it can't find my username.

Funnily enough, the same happened to me when I tried to logon to my steam at my friends house.

It may be a payment dispute, but I haven't bought anything since last month.

Did you find a workaround? I've tried and tried, I've memorized almost everything about my account by heart, so I know I'm not making any spelling errors.

EDIT: Mom just came in and told me she found transactions from Steam from the month of July. I haven't even touched her credit card.

check your email.

Both are fine. I've changed the passwords on both, just in case.

oh, okay.

shouldn't your steam tell your email any notifications of a changed password?

That would be true. There's still the matter of getting my account unsuspended.

Steam is the one thing that I keep secure on my computer. Never log on anywhere other then my own house. Never touch anything steam related on the internet.

I am scared, this is the second thread today where someone claims to have his account compromised.
