Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress Megathread! - Necro'd enough to count as a vampire  (Read 133923 times)

You lucky bastard!

By the way, does anyone have some tips on getting a sustainable food/booze supply and general fortress design and defense? I haven't played in a while and I feel like I'll die horribly fast.
Getting food is easy. Hollow out a nice-sized room in the dirt (but leave the roof on!) and build a farm plot in it, then use the "q" menu to set it to grow plump helmets. Plump helmets are the stock dwarven food: they grow reasonably fast, can be brewed, cooked, or eaten raw, and they're goddamned mushrooms, how can you not love them?

Defense is mostly up to the player. TBH I just line my 3 tile-wide entrance with dozens/hundreds of cage traps and let the invaders fill them, but certain rats won't trigger them and might require dogs chained up/some traffic to be revealed.

i've always only used farming for brewing and used masses of turkeys for food (eggs)

prepared egg biscuits usually end up going for like 5000+ with a well trained cook too, so they make a good trading item

Stop know more about the game then most people on these forums.

Started playing recently, pretty fun game. But can traps be triggered by dwarves?

friendly dwarves will not trigger it

unless unconscious
This works on normally uncatcheable animals, too.

Just finished a rudimentary mod that adds a few RuneScape ores to the game.

You going to post it on Bay12 forums?

Not yet, I feel it's too simple to post there. Maybe I'll add a runecrafting system...

I was brutally raped by several boogie mans

A giant kea pecked a child in the head, caving in his skull in front of the rest of the group. In addition, an other child was severely injured and is in a coma.
Grimdark indeed.

So I'm about to embark on the quest of playing this stuff. Looks awesome and terrifyingly difficult to learn at the same time.
What's the most realistic texture pack out there? I'd rather feel like I'm playing Towns than Zork, you know?

You know that common tactic where you arm untrained masses with ranged weapons and batter enemies with shots? I did that, except instead of crossbows we have anti-tank and combat rifles, then I had a movie-worthy shot:

It was chilling here, either laughing at the shooters who constantly missed or dodged the bullets Matrix-style.

Blood was probably shooting out like a jet at this point. He dodges 6 more shots, then drops dead. Even better is who killed it. A random peasant.

She is flimsy, weak, and susceptible to disease. If this game properly simulated the physical requirements of firing ranged weapons then that gun would probably knock her on her ass.

People like Phoebus a lot, it seems. I only used Mike Mayday's pack, then I switched from tiles to ASCII after a year of playing.
