Not really, though, Irene is just a hurricane. She doesn't want to destroy everything, it's just nature's way. Hopefully no one is harmed in the coming events and damage isn't too severe. There will be a lot of problems that come from this, but we'll make it through, as always. Thus far the worst seems to be behind us anyway.  Good luck to anyone in her path and best wishes.

By the time New Jersey gets hit, she'll still be a category 1: 85 mph winds at her worst. But up in New York, she'll be nothing more than a tropical storm.

obama told all the weather stations to broadcast that a 'massive storm' would hit the northeast so all the normally relaxed northeasterners would flip stuff and buy everything like the world was ending (walmart's shelves were wiped of food) as a part of his stimulus plan. it looks like it worked pretty well.

This. I think all the hype, and the fact that every channel wants to cover it, makes it seem like it will be more severe than it really is. I'm not really expecting it to be too bad where I am. That being said, I'm gonna hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Just so y'all know. The U.S names hurricanes according to the alphabet, and how many hurricanes we have had in the season. It alternates from boy to girl. That is why it is called Irene.
