Author Topic: "Majority of Youth want Macs, not PCs" Very sad  (Read 6828 times)

so there's no secret amazing thing about macs

yet they're still priced so much higher?

Why do you assume a Mac is there to be "better". Whatever a company makes, that is pretty subjective beyond what hardware it has.

A Mac offers an alternative. Some people like it, and everyone has their own reason to, be it simply the design, the interface, the way in which Mac OS programs work, how the system updates, the environment for the average end user.

I used a MacBook as my main computer from 2008 to about March of this year. I currently use a Compaq now as its one of my favorite PC brands. I don't see either as more superior, Mac OS just offers an alternative that I find nicer to work in personally for writing documents, organizing photos, organizing music, doing any webdesign work, and other general tasks. In saying that I've never really liked programming in OSX outside of web design, and gaming always feels odd even after Steam (to the point I'm not interested in Mac gaming at all anymore). I also prefer web browsing in Windows currently, but that might be just because this new computer has a bigger screen lul.

My point is, Mac and PCs offer different things for different people. There is no best computer for everyone. And just because you aren't interested, don't understand, or don't want to own a Macintosh doesn't really justify calling it a terrible useless product. And I think you'll find whatever you think, Macintosh computers are acknowledged worldwide as highly successful consumer products that have changed computing. No anti-Mac sentiment will change that ever.
Ok everyone. Thread is over. Sheath made the point that we have all been making in less valid ways. I applaud him for that.

most people on Blockland are only pro-PC because its what they were first exposed to as a platform, or its what computer their family bought which they use.

My first computer (earliest memory) was a gateway PC. It was a piece of stuff, but was supposed to be amazing for the time. A couple years later, when I started working in the tech department at my middle school, I used Mac more and more, and it was my first personal laptop (macbook). Now I work in the tech department at my high school (still using a personal mac) and my high school is entirely PC.

The reason I mention this is because, I choose mac because I was first truly exposed to it, and it's what I know best. I know the ins and outs of it, although not everything, but having worked with Windows machines as well, I believe my opinion is perfectly valid and rather the opposite of "shallow and uninformed".

alternatively you could point me in the right direction

seriously what are they good at? organizing stuff? I don't understand

Lately both operating systems are perfectly capable of performing similar operations, although Mac's pitch in the past was "better at life stuff". Although the bundled software is very nice software, I agree in that Microsoft has stepped up their game and has a wide variety of "life stuff" that is great software now available. On the other hand, Macs have gotten better at work stuff. Apple released its own suite of iWork, while continuing the releases of Office for Mac.

Another big point that I've just opened my eyes to, is the reasoning behind the company. It's that people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it. Part of the reason Apple has grown to be the 2nd most valued corporation in the world is because they didn't just want sell computers. They wanted to change the world, and advance the way we interact, and the way we compute in everyday life. I would say they succeeded, I don't know about you. But as for how successful they are, it's because most companies (including Microsoft) work from What, to How, and stop there. They say right out front "This is our computer, it has these specs, and it does this and this and this. It does all these things using this new technology. Want to buy one?".

Apple's approach: We exist to advance the human race. We want to simplify the computer, and make doing what you love to do easy, and more powerful than ever. We've done just this by designing this unibody laptop, made from one piece of aluminum alloy, and all hardware is integrated and hand-picked just for the Mac OS X operating system. Want to buy one?

See the difference?

don't know about your sisters but if I just got out of college I personally wouldn't drop 1,000 on a mac. your sisters probably just saw a big shiny new mac and just got that.
Right because a 19 and 24 year old certainly don't know how to manage money sorry I didn't know you knew more about my family then I do.

Relative to what brand you buy and where, there are plenty of PC brands that are outrageous in pricing. Considering hundreds of companies make PCs and only one makes Macs, there is plenty more opportunity for Apple to gouge even more.

EDIT: grammar national socialist

The ONLY problem I have with Macs is they update their OS so freaking much. And the game compatibly is annoying but that's the software designers fault. Not Apple.

They update it as regularly as Microsoft does, if not more often only slightly. Really, it's not that often.

Personally, I like Microsoft's more upfront approach slightly more. Apple commercials hardly ever tell you what kind of this and that their products run.

I mean making entirely new operating systems.

ALIENWARE

don't even get me started sjhgkjdfhgjhdfkg

why do I keep miss reading the title as "Majority of Youth want incest, not PCs" Very sad?

All that information is on their website, it's not like they don't tell you. They just believe different information should go into an ad, because although specs are important, what you do with it is more important. And what you do with technology determines the specs you need. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.

I can respect you liking the more...upfront approach, I can get that.

yeah but half their commercials they just bash "PCs".
and its not like you cant do "life" (wtf is that supposed to mean?) stuff on a windows-based computer.

Applem.

I love Macs, the fact you can partition it and run Windows software on it.

Right because a 19 and 24 year old certainly don't know how to manage money sorry I didn't know you knew more about my family then I do.
it doesn't seem like they do know how to manage their money
i wouldn't drop 1000 on a comp to use for the reasons you listed.
