most people on Blockland are only pro-PC because its what they were first exposed to as a platform, or its what computer their family bought which they use.
My first computer (earliest memory) was a gateway PC. It was a piece of stuff, but was supposed to be amazing for the time. A couple years later, when I started working in the tech department at my middle school, I used Mac more and more, and it was my first personal laptop (macbook). Now I work in the tech department at my high school (still using a personal mac) and my high school is entirely PC.
The reason I mention this is because, I choose mac because I was first truly exposed to it, and it's what I know best. I know the ins and outs of it, although not everything, but having worked with Windows machines as well, I believe my opinion is perfectly valid and rather the opposite of "shallow and uninformed".
alternatively you could point me in the right direction
seriously what are they good at? organizing stuff? I don't understand
Lately both operating systems are perfectly capable of performing similar operations, although Mac's pitch in the past was "better at life stuff". Although the bundled software is very nice software, I agree in that Microsoft has stepped up their game and has a wide variety of "life stuff" that is great software now available. On the other hand, Macs have gotten better at work stuff. Apple released its own suite of iWork, while continuing the releases of Office for Mac.
Another big point that I've just opened my eyes to, is the reasoning behind the company. It's that people don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it. Part of the reason Apple has grown to be the 2nd most valued corporation in the world is because they didn't just want sell computers. They wanted to change the world, and advance the way we interact, and the way we compute in everyday life. I would say they succeeded, I don't know about you. But as for how successful they are, it's because most companies (including Microsoft) work from What, to How, and stop there. They say right out front "This is our computer, it has these specs, and it does this and this and this. It does all these things using this new technology. Want to buy one?".
Apple's approach: We exist to advance the human race. We want to simplify the computer, and make doing what you love to do easy, and more powerful than ever. We've done just this by designing this unibody laptop, made from one piece of aluminum alloy, and all hardware is integrated and hand-picked just for the Mac OS X operating system. Want to buy one?
See the difference?
