Retreat implies an ordered withdrawal under bad circumstances. A rout is a completely disorganized unordered falling back, during which, all semblance of order is lost in the mad dash for saftey.

i use df to simulate battles, because of the multitudes of weapons, real metals (such as copper, bronze,  steel.) and it uses real physical properties of metals, and battles can also be random, those the person with better gear/skill usually wins.

while dwarf fortress is a different thing, I use the arena mode to create soldiers and pit them against each other (Lot's a rubble, it's a fantasy game, but since it uses density, max edge, weight, and other stuff i use to to see the effectiveness of soldiers. also it's 2d so i regulate it to simulation, not screenshots.

To use it though, people need to post their gear, and the training of their troops.

My troops use iron breastplate, greaves, helmet, and iron warhammers, with leather boots and a oaken shield. They have competent training.

You're right. I don't know about you, but for me, the temptation to make you loose all the time would be impossible to resist.

Until it's been determined and agreed upon by Naosa to conduct the battles for us, I will keep my men's gear classified.

In the event that all of this actually does work out, it sounds like a lot of fun.
