Author Topic: Parkour and Freerunning -Cement isn't as hard with snow on it-  (Read 11495 times)

Guys, you should all join the Assassin's Den on NerdFitness.  It's all about freerunning and parkour.

NF also has a few good articles, and here are some videos:
Beginner's Guide to Parkour
Great Skills to have for Parkour
How to Handstand
A Great Realistic Parkour Video
An Impressive Parkour Video

This summer I plan on doing a lot of physical training, and I want to include parkour in it.  It'll be fun.

Edit:
Also this is a good way to start:
Quote from: NerdFitness.com
10 squats (building up to plyometric box jumps)
    10 push-ups
10 leg lifts on your back with both legs
    10 pull-ups

Do two sets of this list, every other day. If some or all of this list is too hard, reduce your reps per set for the hard exercise(s) until you can do two sets. I started on pull-ups with 1.5 pull-ups per set. It’s OK to start with even half a pull-up or merely hanging and flexing. The important thing is to do 10% more next week than you can this week.

Here’s how to progress:

Each week, add 1-2 reps to each exercise (2×12, 2×14, 2×15, etc.)
After doubling the reps for each exercise (2×20), add another full set to your workout (3×20; you may have to temporarily reduce reps on that final set back down to 10 or less).  When you can do 4×20, perform each rep a little faster, more explosively, to get in a more plyometric and aerobic workout.

During summers when I was a kid I used to play 50+ hours straight on the weekends and only sleep 4-5 hours a day on the weekdays the rest was gaming. You darn sissy kids these days and your "waah my eyes are bleeding" or "oh my god I had my 3rd heart attack at 14" or your "wahhh I got a blood clot in my leg and it killed me!" Back in my day we played through the pain and we lived off hot pockets and coke and we thanked god for all of it without complaint.

What would you recommend for stretches and training etc.? Parkour looks cool and fun, but I also need to just have some basic physical activity; my parents want me to do some sport and nothing really looks interesting or worth it.

oh my god lol

These probably aren't the best stretches but this is what I do:
Toe-touches, move on to grabbing your legs and holding that if this gets too easy
Some arm stretch where I put my elbow on my back and try to touch the back of my head
Split stretches, don't push yourself too far or your muscles could tear and that feels terrible for weeks
Quads; stand on one foot, holding one leg. Doing this with your eyes closed really tests your balance lol
And then I just stand and tense up all of my muscles for a few seconds

And as for some training:
As said in the OP don't lift weights unless the weight you're lifting is yourself, ie pullups or pushups, one-handed pushups really work a lot of the muscles you'd use in pk and practices balance
  Learn PK roll
Bone and muscle conditioning realllyyy helps with impacts and endurance
..and stuff in Rave's post should be helpful to you

Thank ye kindly, I probably at this point have really weak muscles and bones. Anyway, I'll do those, and maybe look up some other stuff too.
EDIT: Surprisingly, with all sorts of popping noises and such, I managed 20 pushups without breathing, whoop-de-doo.

Kat, you have to breathe when exercising.  Idk why you'd think it's a good thing to be able to do 20 without breathing.

I stop breathing while exercising if I don't think about it, it's not something to be proud of.

Oh, and also, I think that in particular my back is a weak point.

what's wrong with your back?

It's weak, it hurts randomly while I'm doing anything physical

if it's not because of bad posture you should get that checked out or something

Bump, I got a pull-up/chin-up bar and I think people in this thread are a good resource for information about exercise etc. and this is worthy of it.

is it possible to parkour with asthma?

No matter what you do you will always look like a huge friend doing this. :(
