Ok, video is uploaded.

Just be warned there is not sound or flashy graphics or camera work. Just a simple display of what is accomplished so far.

Ok, try and make some terrains if you wish. Start with a sphere, cut in half and use that as a base. Scale does not matter. Try making mars please.

Use Torque Constructor. Its much better, free and you don't have to mess around with awkward exporters and hacky plugins. You will need to make an account on GarageGames.com but thats free too.

I forgot to mention, we will also need various asteriods in different shapes.

If you are looking for textures for planets, the Celestia Motherlode has a pretty good selection.

If you used a flat plane with a simple texture on it and a kill trigger, you could put frozen natural gas lakes or other interesting objects on the planets. You could use a flat plane with a water texture and a physical zone to simulate water without having it extend all throughout your map, all though you wouldn't be able to sink in the water very well, so any lakes you make shouldn't be that deep.

maybe we could have a electricity meter in the center of the earth, therefor proving that money does make the world go round.

well, monty's last comment asside (which I believe was a joke), the idea for water is good, however I think I *may* have a way of having normal water in on 'earth' without having to use a physical zone. Its hard to explain but basically you have a terrain block and you use it to contain water as normal, however you set it to "empty" so you don't see/feel it at all.

I will try the 'celestial' thing right now thanks.

This looks like it will PWN when it gets done.

The only thing I don't like about this map is the way you are building "inside" the planets... But then again, idk how else it could be done...

The thing is, you can't contain water. Even with terrain, the water's effects go on forever. You can see this if you go under ground with the free cam. You'll float in the water.

That is troublesome. However I could have sworn there was a TBM map (sorry) that had a waterfall and 2 water datablocks.

Anyway, progress is going great. Earth has a nice new texture thanks to that celestial thing and the moon is done too. A picture is attached. It is a real ingame picture and please note that the moon is very close to the camera in that shot hence its size is distorted. It is actually much smaller than the earth ingame.

Also, the 2 celestial bodies that are currently ingame (earth and moon) both have their own gravitational varients so for instance, earth has a gravity much stronger than normal BL gravity and it is more realistic where as the moon has normal BL gravity (which happens to have the look of Moon gravity).

Unfortunately, building on either of the bodies is not yet supported due to the fact that I cannot seem to allign the interiors just right. I have spoken to BS but it appears that its just a case of trial and error. If you have any info on how to get this to work then please say so.

Enjoy the pic and more features coming soon.

Are the planets flat? or do they have terrain, and thats a big moon.

Inside the planets are flat (did you watch the video?) and as I mentioned above, the picture is decieving. The moon is much smaller than the earth ingame but the camera placement gave the moon some size distortion.

The planets work just like they do in a similiar map in Gmod. From the outside they look like spheres (as you see in the picture) but on the inside they are flat.

i made somethign liek this for rtb.... except with floating chunks of land

hmm, I remember there was a map for RTB which had a couple of planets and a sun, trouble was that although the planets were spherical, thats all they were. And they were tiny. The planets in my map are much larger, flat and functional.

I'm afraid I don't remember your map though ladios??

MAJOR UPDATE!

I figured out why I couldn't build on the planets or atleast, how to get them working. Turns out that BL won't let you build upon interiors whose scale is larger than 20x20x20. I only got the problem because earth was 100x100x100.

I figured it out when, by chance, I tried to build on the moon. I was so suprised when it worked. I also think it has to be at a Z axis height of xxx.4

To compensate for this 'restriction' I will scale my maps in Constructor before exporting.

Also made some other mods to map such as...

Earth is now twice as large so it can be urbanised and offer enough freedom.

Moon is an extra third large.

Mars is done.
