Had a little conversation with smerry. Would have messaged sadpear directly but I have to have at least five posts first. Would post my messages but they didn't save. I tried to be as polite as possible.
Basically, I messaged smerry asking her to ask sadpear to unlock it. This was her reply:
Re: Unlock appeal
I'll talk to Sadpear and other moderators about it, but it wasn't just Hammers who was the cause of the thread being closed. Their were 2 warnings from me on the thread about the arguments and people (not including Hammers) continued to argue on that thread rather than discussing the suggestion appropriately. It takes two sides to have an argument and if the majority of people have ignored his posts and not retorted the thread wouldn't be closed now.
In my opinion, Sadpear was correct in closing that thread, I would have done the same if I was online so for now this thread will not be reopened; but for the sake of fairness I'll talk to some other moderators and get their opinions as well.
I'll PM you if anything changes.
All the best,
smerry
I later messaged her saying that I didn't think locking the thread was necessary and that maybe some bans would have been more appropriate.
Re: Unlock appeal
Unfortunately, I can't just ban people for making one post that break the rules, there's a whole system of discipline measures that have to be taken.
And please note it wasn't one or two consistent users that were arguing on that thread, it seems that due to a disagreement started on or due to another forum the thread in question was going to cause arguments. New users had come specifically to post on that thread, there are other deleted posts that you cannot see.
I understand that this is frustrating for some people who were using that thread correctly, like the OP, but some of the most passionate supporters of the suggestion were, in the end, the users who ruined it for the rest of you. They deliberately ignored two of my warnings and insisted to continue making personal comments; we do not tolerate this at all and in the end Sadpear had to be firm but fair.
I've have various discussions with other moderators and they agree with Sadpear's and my decision
