How is what dodger put not in line with the thread? He's posting what good modern music beholds.

Okay here is song good stuff, they blend middle-eastern style music (tastefully and limited) with good modern prog. It doesn't suck:

The HAARP Machine - Disclosure

The HAARP Machine - Machine Over

This is off of their debut album released this October, on the 16th.

Are... are we talking about the same classic music here? I assumed the OP meant great classic tunes like this. I mean, uh... Metallica...? Megadeth? That's not exactly classic.

aight that settles it, you're forgetin' dumb.
what is mainstream to people is an opinion, besides were getting off track, the fact here is that OP cant take the fact that "Times a be change'in" and what people consider good will change to.
way back when, slavery was accepted, now its not. Get over it

not exactly, but it's getting there.

1. what is mainstream to people is an opinion
2. way back when, slavery was accepted, now its not. Get over it

1. No, it's not.
2. Here's where your argument falters: If we see slavery as the "mainstream" thing, it's not an opinion that a forgetton of people had slaves.

Only example of genericism (where a band goes super bland/generic) I could testify to that I listened to is Linkin Park. First two albums were amazing. After that, poo.

ITT: we pick out the best classic bands to compare the barrel scrapings of today to. There are still good bands, stuff music is just cheaper to make and so there is a lot more of it.

classic with brown townog/FM synths > mainstream

daaang I wonder if I can teach myself the principles of electronics

I agree with OP. Those constant, stupid love songs REALLY bug me. But I don't listen to this classic music either. I like classical and folk, usually Maritime or Irish folk anyway. One thing I love about folk is that the songs often tell good stories. I mean, just look at Barrett's Privateers. It's not a very musical song, but it has a nice story.

it's a demo but it can show how powerful brown townog synthesizers are

No. I am talking about 60s, 70s, and early 80s rock. I am not really a big fan of 50s music. I hate hard rock bands or metal.

What are you talking about? I know that times change. This topic is about how it's changing into something bad (as far as music).

It's all just opinion about what classic bands were the best and what modern bands are now. Some people think that today's mainstream music is the best.

That and the fact that stuff music doesn't get immortalized.

try listening to this

i loving loved that set
I don't like anything that is done electronically. I like actual bands that have guitarists and bassists and drummers.

I really don't like anything that is done through a computer, it just sounds weird to me. Even if this wasn't done with some type of electronic, I still didn't like it.

To give you an idea of what I like, it was suggested that I listened to The Yellow Moon Band's Chimneyand some of The Black Keys and I liked both of them. And I don't like anything that has a constant annoying beat like: do do do do do. I don't know if you understand that.

It does take skill to make a great beat and to come up with good lyrics. Saying that anyone can come up with good lyrics and a nice beat is like saying that anyone can just write a hit novel no questions asked. It takes talent. You have to have a good ear for music and you have to have the linguistic skills of of a poet.
