Honestly, liking music as a whole baffles me. I'd think different people would prefer specific genres of music, not all as one..

Who said they like music as a whole?

Of course I focus on some genres, but why would I only listen to them? I like to dabble in jazz and rap every so often. Variety is the spice of life and it's nice to get away from my preferred god-tier of shoegazing and post-punk.

However, if you are nitpicking and pointing out that by saying, "I like music," you like all music ever, then you are just being a forget.

i'm confused about what you're saying though

because like, you said that you believe music is a waste of time, yet you prefer specific genres of it

saying that it's a waste of time would imply that you don't like listening to music at all, no?

Uh, no. That's not what I'm saying at all?

I prefer certain types that I can play in the background as I work. I said "waste of time" referring to people who obsess over it as z way if life, not simply listening to it.

Sorry, should have been more specific with what I meant. I had no idea my opinion would spark controversy..

...you like me less because I don't prefer music?
Are you serious?
yes, as Nietzsche said, "Life without music would be a mistake."

edit:
That's not a reason to hate someone, but I'm confused. People are literally conditioned to like music. Any kind, but just music
I don't hate him, I just find it queer that he doesn't like music.

Well then. Good thing I don't know you or generally mind what you think of me..

And to clarify:

in some cases, musicians can't really help not obsessing over music because it's their job, their only way of supporting themselves.

however i could agree in the case when there's some cigarette who won't stop talking about that one band and telling you to listen to that song

So the new stuff sucks, and the older songs are still better?

This sounds familiar.

Musicians aside, they are payed for their work. It's justified.

I don't really like metal and hard rock. All of the songs are too similar. They all sound the same to me.

theres allways been crap music, deal with it D:

The only good "classic" music I like is ELO.
