It's just my preference to have it on the JS server. Even if your server is down, you can restart it. Plus, there would be a "my server crashed and I'm on a plane somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean stuff." issue. Then you have to deal with port forwarding. I already own the JS Web Server, so I don't mind using it.

If you have a server running and people can join it, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to run some sort of daemon on the same port.

Blockland forwards TCP and UDP through uPnP and people who manually portforward would select TCP and UDP out of ignorance.

The only issue I currently have is the inability to determine whether a Blockland server has crashed or not. I have some ideas about this, however.

A good solution is to simply ping it; you can also determine its lack of response by having some sort of heartbeat networked or file-based.

I was kind of aiming more towards the heartbeat system. The server would have to tell the blockStar server that it's still alive.

You will definitely still need to check the ping. The more indicators, the better.
