Is there anything I should get in addition to the CPU? Like thermal paste or something.

Also, would it be safe to buy one used from Ebay?

I can't speak for the quality of Ebay but if it's new i don't see why not, I personally wouldn't buy a used processor because I wouldn't want to take the chance of it crapping out. Also both of those processors will work and thermal paste is a must unless you want your processor to repeatedly overheat, I remember when I was new to building computers I added too little and it wouldn't even make it to the desktop before it overheated.

Well if it doesn't work I have 14 days to return it. Ill be sure to buy some thermal paste.

Gonna buy this to replace my Gefroce g100, opinions? I'm not really sure what my budget is for a GPU, but if there's anything better(around $100) feel free to suggest it. Im not looking to play bf3 on max or anything, just something I can play most games on.

MY CARD IS SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE CALL THE COPS

AND SO I WAIT

Not going for the Ivy-E because the die shrink is barely worth it.

I need the E series due to its 6-core processing power and the fact that I use multi-core utilizing resource-intensive programs at times.

dumb question:
would it be a good idea to hook a amd gpu with an intel cpu and vice versa or does it really not matter?

so building a computer in the middle of the night in the dark as stealthily as possible without my family finding out it is tough as hell
but man does it feel good to have pulled off

Uh, why did you do that? Siblings birthday present or something?

no dont get that card
you probably wont be able to play most games even on worst settings

buy this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202011
the 7770, its only 10 bucks over 100, but its the newest generation of AMD cards + should run most games at medium-high settings at normal resolution, and comes with 2 free games (Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 3 blood dragon)

but before buying that card, give me your specs, just in case there is a bottleneck and buying something else is more important than a new GPU

lol no it doesn't matter

He's going to get an LGA775 core 2 quad or something like that.

Would it be possible to add both. i use Mac for casual internet browsing and editing whilst I use PC for gaming and making films and stuff.

why can't you use windows for the stuff you do on your mac

So, I'm in the process of building a new computer on a pretty tight budget. It's a pretty substantial upgrade from my 2-core overheating-prone laptop.

Parts:
Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153
PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161402
Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128553&Tpk
Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103996

Thoughts?
IMO, get a 1x4 stick of ram so you can upgrade later. Also the mobo doesn't have a very good review score.

Need some airflow advice.

Would implementing this airflow cool my GPU pretty well? Right now it idles at 51C, sometimes going as high as 77C (during gaming) and I have a 120mm at 1 pulling in and a 120mm at 3 pulling out. It's a 7970.

Also my motherboard only has two chassis fan connectors, so I might get a fan controller. How do fan controllers work? Where do they go? How do they connect?

EDIT: My room is usually between 65-80F
