Any tips for cable management with a nonmodular power supply?
stick the unused cables somewhere where they won't impede airflow

Being built on is not the same as running on

I built my computer on my bed (obviously also easy to get a static charge built up), although, again, I suppose if that's the first time he's done anything with building computers and didn't take precautions it would be pretty bad to build it on the carpet. I didn't have another place but the carpet to build mine and I always go way out of my way to not touch any pins or anything and again, usually touch anything I see that'd discharge the static so I guess it's mainly about how cautious you are, still not very smart to do regardless even if you know what you're doing.

I don't think it's as common as people make it seem honestly.

Edit: Holy stuff, this made me think of when I was building my computer, I just realized how often I discharge myself subconsciously when dealing with electronics, I'm not even sure what caused the habit considering I don't have THAT much experience to where I think it'd cause that.

I made sure to touch some grounded metal to discharge the static electricity while i was building it.

Good to hear you at least took some precaution, and something I just remembered regarding my previous post, I remembered exactly how i developed this habit, in High School I would take Electronics half the year, CMOS ICs can and will screw up due to static charge, I never burnt one out from it because I'd constantly discharge myself because I was worried I would and now do that with any kind of chip/electronic component.

I think a year would probably be long enough to develop a habit haha.

nicely done cable management

The case makes it really easy to manage cables

I should be receiving my father's computer part components tomorrow. Already got the case and monitor. Building it this weekend. :D

specs?

i plan on upgrading my computer, hopefully I can get away with only buying a new case (current case isn't big enough to fit a new graphics card), a new graphics card, and possibly a motherboard but I'd definitely keep using my mobo if I can.

right now I'm looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202008 for the graphics card, this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066 for the case, and this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131872   as a possible mobo, but I really don't know much about mobos.

I'm pretty certain about wanting a 7970, but the case and motherboard are totally tentative

basically I'm just asking if i can still use my current motherboard and processor or if I have to buy new ones. and also for tips on better things to buy and stuff
also I kind of want to do this with all amd parts, so unless you find a better quality and lower priced part by a different brand don't bother suggesting non-amd stuff

dxdiag attached

oh and since it doesn't seem to say in the diag I currently have an asus M4A77TD-pro motherboard

LED fan lights are actually white, but camera didn't think so.

That case looks extremely similar to the case I used for my mom's Hackintosh. Which case is that? Only difference I notice is the fans are on the front and not on the side, and the clear side.

@littledude if you're planning on getting a 7970, you should definitely wait until the new AMD cards release, supposedly in October. The new cards will be better, clearly, but even if you dont buy a newer card the prices for the older cards will drop.

that's like 2 months though
:(
aint nobody got time for that

How small is your case? An HD 7970 isn't that huge.
