I took out my GPU and tried using my integrated card but the same thing happens. This time a BSOD flashes before it goes black and restarts.

Did you do anything in particular before when the computer did work?

Either bad RAM or damaged OS.

My computer was freezing entirely frequintly. Today every time I tried controlling an NPC with the kinect my whole computer would freeze and never respond. So I tried to reset my bios by taking out the motherboard battery. And now it freezes when it gets to the starting windows screen

I always manage to cut myself digging around in these, haha.

old computers always fight back.

I still need help

I have a PCI-E x1 USB 3.0 expansion card plugged into my second PCI-E x16 slot. Does that mean my first PCI-E will run slower too?

No.

my computer just completely freezes all the time. just, completely. like the screen just stays the same forever until i forcefully turn off the computer. is the only thing that could be causing this is my old HDD?

Not too sure if the hard drive itself would cause it, check for bad sectors or mass read/write errors from SMART. If there are none, run a memory diagnostic.

Could be a processor related issue.  I know that when I ran 64bit Windows XP on a Pentium D tower, which I know 64 bit XP was a bad idea to begin with, it would freeze completely mouse and all for long times on end and need a force restart.

i have an i7 4770k i bought 2 months ago
my hdd is an old 5 year old caviar green so naturally i would point to that

Can also depend on power supply and again like koopa said to do, check for errors, and then if that checks out do a memory test.  Could be lots of things.

running memtest86 for 45 minutes yielded no ram errors so im going to point the finger at the hdd. got my eyes on the new wd 2tb black, any suggestions

Why would you need a 2tb thats what I'm wondering
