Would this RAM work better? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233367

Anything that is low profile like that or just in general has small heatsinks will do fine.

i would ONLY ever use water cooling if i have 2 video cards and overclock all hardwares.

otherwise its kind of a waste of effort. even then heat isnt an issue with modern cases and fans, and software to adjust video card and cpu fan speeds.

its just a silencer at that point.

any kind of water cooler under 150 is a waste. I tried an h60 (70 to 80 bucks) vs my good ol' 212 evo (25 bucks), testing i7 4770k temps

h60 - 50 degrees, awfully loud fan
212 evo - 30 degrees, not loud

I was really pissed with purchase as microcenters RMA process is stuff and after I sent them an email asking for the rma code they never replied. so much for great service. time to sell it on ebay I guess

evo cooler is great except the thing is loving huge and depending on your mobo it might cover some ram slots

also @ the guy building a computer on the page before this - don't buy a third party cpu cooler unless you're doing overclocking. stock fans are just fine otherwise.

also also, evo comes with thermal compound, so you don't need to buy your own. there is negligible difference between compounds so it doesn't matter how many fancy diamond quantum magic technologies they put in it.

He also wants it to last a long time. In which case a 3rd party cooler is a good choice because it does improve the lifespan of the cpu.

What do you guys think the price tags of these things will be on Black Friday/Cyber-Monday?

Hard to say, but I'm of the opinion that it's very much worth waiting for

I'm thinking about upgrading my HD 7850 to either an R9 280X or R9 290. Gud Christmas presint yiss

i can't go any bigger than the case i have on there, a mid-tower case wouldn't fit where i'm putting it
