God damnit, so it's not even based off of Sword Art Online. That would be so awesome going through like all 100 floors or something.

BAO is edited version of pirate rpg.
oh this is good news for me

SAO was still crap, it would be better if they didn't skip floors and go straight to 70 or whatever.
OT:Glad to see that this is still alive, can we see how to build looks so far?

is this still a thing?

BAO is a combat beta for PRPG. the combat system used here will be transfered over to PRPG. other systems and UI will also be transfered. this is basically a closed off, non sandbox, test server, but with a story and mmo like features added so it's not just a lame testground.

the game has little to do with the show, it's more of a combination of different things. there may be characters from other media put in as a sort of blockland version, but the stories from other shows/games won't play a part here, just that the characters may act similar to how they would in their original work. for example, kirito won't come up to you and ask you to help him disconnect from the server, but you might see a sword that looks like his. There won't be a final fantasy world, but sephiroth might appear among a league of villains or something, though he won't make references to the world of final fantasy 7.

the world system is similar to the floors system in a way. when you free a world, it unlocks a door into the next world. When a world is freed, dark creatures no longer spawn, but monsters native to that world will continue to appear. the most recently unlocked worlds are usually more difficult than worlds. like the show, there will be a "frontliner" group of players. these players are the ones who aren't afraid of risking their life and gear. the frontliner players will be heading into the most recently unlocked worlds, which are still inhabited by all sorts of dark creatures. These worlds will be where the main story is probably taking place. The 'cleared' worlds will be more safe from dark influence, and are more suited to new players.

please note that "dark" refers to creatures that are not native to the world they are in. dark creatures are types of monsters that are created and used for evil; they don't fight to protect themselves but only to follow commands and do harm. this does not refer to the "darkness in your heart" or "finding your own light" or some stupid fanfic crap like that. the monsters aren't "dark" because they lost their way in life or are going through gender acceptance issues. darkness is commonly associated with fear and the unknown. these monsters are unknown to the natives of the worlds.

if you have questions, i'll try to answer them.

yea i really didn't like how they just skipped the game. it was a cheesy romance story set in an mmo. the whole mmo part was just a setting, the story could've been set in the real world and it would work just the same. i didn't like how they finished the game so quickly, and then just jumped into some new game, now with special interest appeal. i would've liked it better if it was about going through the 100 floors, meeting other players, losing players along the way, and having to work together using knowledge of level design and game mechanics to clear dungeons and move higher up.

that's why i like log horizon. when it came out, i was happy to see that a lot of the stuff i thought of for BAO was also thought up by someone else, and put into a show. it's sort of a visual example of what i'd like this server to be like. the show's focus is ON the mmo, the plot revolves around guild politics and what life would be like inside a game, without the "die in game die in real life". the stuff brought up in the show is relatable because it's a throwback to what mmos were like. new players getting scammed by other players, guild bonding and backstabbing, rare loot drops, class mechanics, zone-camping/territory rivalry, working around pvp zones, group communication/teamwork, players appearance in game vs real life, roleplayers. these things make it interesting because it brings the game atmosphere into it. it appeals to mmo players because it has almost all mmo cliches/tropes put into it. the story's about the game, not just set in the game.

I remember you working on a private server called BAO a long time ago.

But now I know it was this :o

please make it like SAO 100 floors would be badass to conquer

Seems a bit like Sword Art Online that's on adult swim.
