"Cap'n, we've got a pretty large grassland that we can land in."
"Do it. Bring the civilians in first, be sure to send a squad of men to clear the area and make sure there isnt anything too hostile. Next, bring in the scientists, have them set up a temp. lab, make sure the air is clean and see if there is any edible food out there.
"This planet is remarkably similar to Earth, eerily so, sir. Do you really think we will have to worry about anything hostile?"
"Better to be prepared. We cant have any harm done to these civilians. The people back at home would have our asses."
"Should we set up any living accommodations for the civilians, sir?"
"The Orca should be fine for awhile. Lets see how this plays out."

Three squads of men are sent out upon landing, equipped with basic weaponry to scout the area out. The scientists follow.

Meanwhile , you are informed that they managed to stop the bleeding of the wounded man.
However it seems the drone took away his capability to walk. For some time.

The young man, "nerd", begins to work on the drone.
After shutting it down and dissasembling it then using some of his gadgets which seem completely oblivious to you.
He exclaims. "I got it! I got it! I mean! I got them!"

He runs to the bridge , stepping onto a shoe lace and falling down.
After  everyone has a good laugh, he shyly presents the codes.

"With them. I can try and sieze control of them! Give me a moment!"

While his blushed person sits down onto a chair and types into the drone control console.
The console turns red in denial. "DENIED." On the screen it says.

"Sir...I think the drones achived sentience, in a way..."
"They don't have much processing power, I can send large pockets of data to overload them."

And so it is that the AFR sends down onto the planet three squads. The scouts land and proceed to scout.
The trees seem oddly shaped. But the basics still remain.
One of the soldiers comments: "These trees give me the creeps..."
The other replies: "It's just a tree Ackerman..."

The scientists are marvled by their discoveries and you can't make anything out due to their pure excitement.
In the end they conclude they need more time.

The scientists run around on the landing zone, one is seen brown townyzing the grass and the soil.
The other stares at the trees. Some of them set out to scan the area for wildlife.
A pure heaven for scientists. You can almost feel the nerdgasm.
The scouts are forced to constantly run after the scientists and warn them not to wander off alone and similiar.

"Overload them, slap the salvage beam on them then move onto that ship projecting the SOS beacon."

The young fellow sends a hilarious ammount of data that is giberish towards the two drones orbiting the noctis.
In retaliation they begin to fire but they are soon confused by the data and simply begin to slow down until they stop firing and their signatures go off. The kid did it. They overloaded.

After retriving the two, which are fairly intact. The ship pilot sets course towards the destroyed ship.

Drone picture.

"Scrap the drones, begin scanning the ship for any signs of life."

The scans return with no life signs.

"Throw the salvage beam onto the ship. Tear it open."

"Report"
"The troops you sent out report that there is nothing to be seen."
"And the researchers?"
"Everything seems well. We have had no negative reports back, though the citizens are getting quite anxious to go out and see the new land, should we permit them to go out?"
"Not quite yet. Have the scouts set a perimeter around the landing zone, small enough to keep an eye on, but large enough as to not be cramped when we begin construction."
"So you intend to colonize the planet?"
"Yes, yes I do.
"What do you intend on calling it?"
A brief pause
"Nova. In the Arclight System."
"You wish to call the system Arclight?"
"Well, we discovered it. Its only fair we name it after ourself."
"And you wish to name the planet after yourself?"
"Yes." Another Pause, " And send out someone to set up living quarters out there. I think it will be best if we get as many of our men out there as possible."

You manage to retrive a 150mm railgun and some scrap parts.

On the other hand. The troops of AFR secure the area and make a perimeter. The science temp lab being set up aswell.
Which is to the scouts relief as they are finally in their small hut doing tests and similiar.
Most are happy to be outside on the planet for once.

From space, this planet seems much larger than Earth. It takes them some time to land the Cranes properly in order to unload building materials and set up the said living quarters. Engineers arrive at the scene and begin to build.

"Warp us out of here and get us on our original course. East."
"This was worth the trip, eh?"
"No. I had to listen to that sucker scream."
"You'll get over it."
"It'll haunt my nightmares."
"Probably."

The small team of scrap collectors will take some time to get anywhere with the heavy ship as there is no predesigned warp target.

"No chance. We need a target to warp."
"Scan for something."
"Nothing."
"This will probably get us killed... Divert most, and almost all power to scanners. Find something. This asteroid field is driving my paranoia crazy."

Scanners pick up a very weak signal of gravimetric origin. It can not be warped to. It has to be pinpointed.

"We got a very weak signal. Gravimetric origin. Can't be warped right now though."
"Can we pinpoint it?"

"Yes we can but it may take some time. First off we have no space probes or launchers. So we may have to triangulate between planets...in others words. Warp around and map the area, then check the new scans and the old until we have a map of the area."
