1st amendment - freedom of religion or no religion
yet the church and the government are connected by a very strong link
they don't allow abortions or gay marriage because "the bible says against it"
they make us sing the pledge of allegiance "under god"
the president is forced to be christian
among many other things
makes no loving sense
I don't believe in the 1st amendment because the church wants to shove its beliefs down peoples throats.
The church is not at the least connected to government, it's the people that try to enforce religious beliefs into the justice system.
They don't force you to sing the pledge of allegiance, and the "A nation under god" was founded in 1957 because a bunch of christians were butthurt that america didn't feel superior enough yet. The saying is just a saying.
The president is not forced to be a christian, hence why Mitt Romney ran, (didn't like him at all) but that showed at least that the government can accept other religions. The day an Atheist runs for President i'll be able to vote.
The only reason religion, Christianity mainly, is always coming up when Abortion or Gay Rights come up, is that it's the general population that enforce that. America's biggest religious belief is Christianity so of course you're going to assume all of America or the government in their whole would go towards what the Bible says. I'm still shocked that some court cases slide with arguments that only back up the Bible. I prefer to keep religious debate away from political debates. If they can't suffice secular proof, then I don't care what they say.
