When the bases are closer together, the dogfights get much more hectic, as does the combat, and the general gameplay gets much more fun. When the bases are far away, you get new players not knowing where the hell to go and hogging all the planes flying infinitely in the wrong direction.
It's like, fly 100 miles, shoot 5 guys, get killed. Fly 100 miles, shoot 5 guys, get killed. You spend more time going to the combat than
in the actual combat. It's nothing to do with skill as it is the mechanics are undeniably boring and broken.
Besides, you don't even need terrain to make the bases far away. That's why we have 64x64 terrain bricks.
btw, your 'dogfights' are literally just TDM's with stunt-planes.
