Author Topic: can i tell you how amazing 3D printing stuff really is  (Read 6519 times)

I've purchased 3 desktop 3d printers

I have a Solidoodle and a Replicator

I put in a preorder for a makibox

Also gun printing isn't scary stuff nor is it that controversial.

You can walk into a home depot and make cheap guns using a lot of simple easy to get items. You'd be spending more money printing out a gun than you would just buying one.

The full spectrum of 3d printing with liquefied plastics is primarily for prototyping if anything. Also the plastics that are used are more than capable of holding up to a quality standard, Lalam. Its young but in just a short time it will become even greater in performance.

i don't know if it was mentioned yet but i ran into something (pretty sure it's the wiki thread for 3d printing)
and in there it states that scientists in china had successfully reproduced kidneys and organs and what not by printing them with human tissue. not sure they've tried putting a whole organ into someone but they've managed replacing portions of organs and it works.

an 83 year old woman in belgium had her whole jaw replaced, and it functions completely normally.

oh wait i found it

fully functional organs not quite

things like jawbones though are completely viable.

in my head im seeing that machine from elysium that repairs bodies super quickly
how many years before that exists i wonder

yeah, 3d printing is really only useful for prototyping right now
i'm looking forward to working with the printers when we get one in the engineering lab here though

You're the first person I've met that's actually watched that movie.

Soon: printing a human body

I've been working on some custom figure designs for my printers back at home. I can finally have figures made the way I want them. :)

Am I the first person you've met to actually like it?

oh forget
what about CLONING
you could deconstruct and reconstruct a person in two different places what if that was like TELEPORTING

would it be...
you?

What did people not like it or something? I thought it was great

I might start an affordable 3D printing company. How it would work: People would be able to upload the template for the model they want to be printed out, and the color/colors as well as the material they want used for the printing of the model they've made and then the already printed model would be shipped to the customer for any given price depending on how much I could pay to get the ink and material for the printing. Do you guys think that this could go well? I may start next year when I get a job and save up a few thousand.

You should probably look up existing companies before you start throwing money at a company that's going to be overshadowed...

Namely Shapeways
