Author Topic: Why do I hate coders???  (Read 9755 times)

not sure if his post was sarcasm

Trinick is right though.

well "good programmer" is subjective.

It wasn't sarcasm. I don't think anyone on Blockland really makes the cut for being a great programmer, Ephialtes probably comes the closest. Trigun is also the best programmer I've ever interacted with, I learn so much from him every time I do a project with him. What I was trying to get at was that being a good programmer isn't an easy thing to do, even with everything I've achieved I don't come close.

Your mom is subjective!

yes yes you're the not as best coder and such

Your mom is subjective!
lol

no it isn't
skill isn't subjective
it may not be measurable, but it is certainly objective

He means the point at which a programmer is "good" is subjective, e.g. my friends in my IT class and my dad all treat me as though I could hack the pentagon, while all I've really done is make small games with the one language I know fluently.

You are right in that skill or experience is measurable, comparable, and is not subjective.

Every coder I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with had been an arrogant egotistical roostery forgetcunt who was literally incapable of speaking to me in a way that wasn't condescending or boastful. The only coder here that I don't hate with every inch of my being is Arekan.

And they're like, neckbeards that worship linux or some stuff.

Probably because some show off some cool stuff but never actually plan to release them.

^ This too

And it is not jealousy, give me a loving break. I don't hate Badspot or Gabe Newell. I can't believe you'd actually be arrogant enough to call it jealousy, jfc. Nobody is jealous of a bunch of script kiddies on blockland who make stupid stuff and don't release it.

It could also be because many coders I've found to be as the OP said roostery and self centered.

I actually have to consciously stop myself from doing this. It ends up being this cycle where I'll start getting more and more egotistical, and then I check myself - just because I have a skill some don't doesn't make me special. I can't build for stuff, doesn't mean builders are gods to me.

I think most scripters/coders just don't have that mental check, and when anyone tells them such they'll just dismiss them. "You can't code! What're you talking about, foolish mortal?!"

the best coders are those where you don't even know they code because they keep it on a strict need-to-know basis

and nobody needs to know

this is exactly what i meant

i think i know what's happening. all the egotistic coders make their skill known very quickly in meeting somebody. you never observe a non-egotistic coder because they keep it on the down low, unless they are explicitly asked/found coding. lots of my friends code, and they're very nice people.

Alright, I was fine with your half handicapped rant about how scripters are arrogant and your anger at my joke comment about jealousy, but this section makes you just look down right stupid.

You're speaking on behalf of the entire blockland community saying that nobody is jealous of scripters. You're wrong. On a daily basis people tell me how jealous they are that I can code so "well," and ask me how I got so "good." I don't flaunt it or even have any excessive pride in my programming skills, as I've made abundantly clear.

You're also misusing the term "script kiddies" so horribly that it entirely discredits your opinion on anything related to computer programming. Here's a hint: script kiddie does not refer to children who can program. Script kiddies are pseudohackers who attempt to hack websites and other computer systems using tools that they did not contribute to creating themselves. An example is Okiver.

You're also taking some kind of dumb jab at keeping scripts private. You don't even have a good reason for it. A lot of programmers and people who respect programmers support the open-source movement but that's hardly even applicable to Blockland add-ons. Most unreleased scripts are private because releasing them will degrade the quality of server hosting them. For example: CityRP. The original mod was great fun, then it was released. Tons of stuffty servers popped up, dividing the player base into fractions and turning off each chunk from the idea one at a time. Then we look at servers that never released their add-ons with glory, like Pload's Prison Escape.

I wasn't thinking about fickle 12 year olds while constructing my post but alright, I guess some people are jealous of marble man's ability to make a snowball catapult. I'm not. Most people aren't. Script kiddy is a slang term that's not defined in a dictionary so I'm not sure why you're getting brown town about it. I guess I should've used "not very good at coding coder"

The keyword was being "stupid stuff", as in, they make something that's extremely insignificant and then they think it makes them prestigious and then not release it excepting people to beg for it. It's not a problem, it's just pathetic.

And I hadn't even read your post until you made that post, my post wasn't a 'response' to anything that you have said in this thread.
