did you tell plastiware beforehand?
Plastiware was the one who had asked me to do it :/

-snip-
LOL, oh man

either way a lot of you guys might have noticed but the reason why there haven't been any gifs on here lately is because I decided to get Electrk into the team as a lead coder.

So when he saw how unorganized the .gmk file was, he decided to completely redo it, and change all the DnD to GML. So it might take a while for the next gif to get on here.

He told me to take it as my vacation so that's pretty chill

btw now that I've got da blue background I'd rather post these now

Since I don't wanna be totally inactive, I'm also doing a few character sprites. I decided to change Erik's clothes a bit, by changing his orange jacket to a coat and his cargo pants to just regular jeans. Also surprise surprise, I also decided to get rid of his crippleness and his wings. He was too much of a burden that way. I also changed Liz COMPLETELY. She no longer has purple hair, now it's brown as you can see. Her jacket's been changed from black to lavender and her jeans are now denim blue rather than black as well.

The guy to the far left is Lord Magnus. He's the most powerful mercenary in Ina. He also has an actual name, but I wouldn't wanna say it here

megaman X guitar yaaaay
it sounds good! nice work

Mega Man X has the best overdrive guitar.  Second-best is definitely Plok/Donkey Kong Country 2 (I swear those games use exactly the same sample).

New and improved Dism Main Theme!   Check it out!
Damn son! This style's a lot better

speaking of stylization, I thought it would be a good idea to change the sprites up a bit. It's not a total art switch like last time. This isn't a problem because it's only applying a filter

outlines or no outlines.

The sprites CAN look sort of less attractive with the black outlines, but of course those will be edited. I might get some better examples tomorrow but I'm just gonna go ahead and post the idea right now

The reason I've been thinking about this is because the current style is pretty much a cheap, pseudo-retro kind of thing. It's just a thing that's common with indie games today and only makes the retro pixel art style like an excuse because they don't have money. With the outlines, it matches the new music style a lot more, considering SNES games had sprites with black outlines, such as super mario 3. The current style looks way too pristine and perfect, and that's a bad thing precisely because it's pixel art. No matter how cool pixel art is, it was never perfect. Some things ended up looking ugly, out of concept, or just didn't look like anything at all. This is what we're aiming for with the new outlined style, but of course we don't want to make them look HIDEOUS.

If we would use the non-outlined style, the music and the graphics are gonna have a huge stylistic crash. This was why we aimed for modern music at first. Since the style wasn't based on a classic at all, then there's no reason for the music to. The only problem with THAT was that, the graphics were still pixel art, and even if a lot of games do it nowadays it's still very unfitting. But if we change the music drastically without changing the visual style not even a bit, it can be pretty bad.

But however, Electrk and Plastiware aren't coming to alike terms. Plastiware likes the black outlines, but Electrk doesn't. Which is why I've decided to make a poll where the users will decide which one's better. I don't want to make all the decisions myself so a poll based on everybody else's decisions.

I'm with Plastiware on this one, but count me out of this.

EDIT: Oh of course. Another reason for this stylization was that Dism's concept art style is obviously cartoony. These cartoon drawings have outlines. Pretty thick ones too. These outlines will obviously match the drawing style and not only will it fit more with the music, it'll fit more with the concept art style, therefore giving us a retro, old videogame vibe.

the outlines obv. need quite a bit of work. even though i cut myself from the team due to your attitude I could give you an example i guess.

I don't get what everyone is up in arms about.  Does everyone hate tall, top-heavy characters since Knuckles' Sonic Boom redesign?  Why?  A top-heavy look helps emphasize a character's strength.  Personally, I think it works for Knuckles and for Isaac.

opinions, i guess

i don't like the way it looks but it's not my game, so whatever

I already stated in my post that the outlines aren't perfect and those problems with them are obviously going to be fixed, and if you're really willing to give us examples then go ahead.

Also I have no idea what everyone's problem is with tall and strong characters. Apparently just because knuckle's character concept was changed in a sequel it is natural for every big gut to look like stuff.

There are really no problems with the strong and tall characters, you guys are just clearly being overly picky

i just don't like the way it looks and it's not because of knuckles or anything, why the hell would you assume that

No outlines, they look too bulky then.
