There's one great change that came with the update. I actually get some sort of a notification when someone replies to my YouTube comment. Before it was post and never see that post again. These notifications allow for conversation in the loosest term, we're still talking about YouTube comments here.

the websites are going to remain that way and youtube will continue to grow unless you either:
a) get over it
b) do something about it

I actually had thoughts of making a similar site to YouTube for a year now, I've somewhat been into web design and one of my friends is a huge programming nut so maybe we can sort something out.

Though if anyone else wants to try you're welcome to have a go at it, I mean these guys seemed to have just started off with a site design then got some funding.

What's stopping any of the web designy guys out there?

They never tried because it's not remotely worth trying. YouTube occupies a viciously massive part of the internet. Everyone knows about it, everyone uses it. Any other video sharing service would fail in trying to rise to the top almost instantly.
