It's not. There was a major rank redistribution.  People who were once MGE are now gold nova master, for instance.

Skill-based gameplay, butter smooth controls, many sub-gamemodes like surf and KZ, for some it's skins, for some it's the workshop, the cheap price for how many hours you can get out of it. That's just from the top of my head.
