Usually you are supposed to drink only a little at the beginning because you can get cramps.
It's always nice to have a bar and a nice cold water when you head is pulsing and you are lying on your back, dying :).
Are there any ways to distract yourself?
If they allow it bring water with you to drink during the run
Also bring a watch
Inhale through your nose and breathe out through your mouth
Why would I waste time drinking during the race?
Also, it doesn't make sense to allow a person who is obsessed with getting stuff done before the due date a watch during the mile run. I did that in 5th grade and I tired myself out in the first 4 minutes :v

Just go out there and try. Do your best. Do what you can. I'm sure you've heard people say, "If you tell yourself you can't do it, you'll never be able to." There's a lot of truth to that.
