Hey guys I have a few questions. I have an old computer that I don't use anymore. I thought that maybe I could use it as a server for blockland.

Questions:
1. Is it a good idea to host a server from an older computer?
2. Does the quality of the computer matter, or is it just my internet connection that matters?
3. What distro and DE/WM should I use to do this?

1. eh, i don't see why not
2. the computer does matter, as well as your internet connection; as to how much it matters, i don't know, it's really about how much CPU and RAM blockland uses as a dedicated server, there's no better way than to just try it out! :3
3. archlinux, no DE/WM (don't use GUI environments on servers, that's just plain idiotic)

wow look i did it

Ah, thanks. I imagine that since literally the only other thing running would be the terminal, I'll have enough cpu usage to get the job done.

well im not going to use debian now lol
installing drivers for it is absolute hell

wow look i did it

A million time this. I tried both and they were just extremely stuffty. Though I felt i3 was a little too minimal; lightweight is nice and all, but if it gets too much in the way of functionality or requires a stuffton of customization then it's not worth it imo.

i used a config file for i3 that i found online. and from that i just edited the keybinds to suit my needs. it works just fine for me and it's not a whole lot of customization needed

I don't know what distro I should keep as my main system. I've tried ubuntu 13.10 and I feel its really slow, I've tried 12.04 and I've liked it but its kinda old. I try to stay away from fedora because of yum, I don't know how to use arch so yeah
debian has issues with drivers
for a de that I would like to use is gnome or whatever else, what should I go with?

well pantheon is pretty close to gnome-style so maybe elementary os.
elementary os isn't old, and it isn't slow, and it uses apt-get so maybe that

i would use elementary on a laptop but not on my computer.
