my dad is in love with linux. hes always asking me to use it and i would use it if i could figure out how to play games on it. i could never understand wine or how to get it to work
WINE does not work for everything, but it's pretty great
should blame the incompetence of (game) developers for having to even figure this out, though
platform support is caused by the incompetence of the developers of end-user applications, i'm hoping newer programming languages like rust and frameworks like SDL will fix these things,
but for now we're stuck with incompetent developers platform-restricting themselves :(

Has anyone else noticed that gnome is trying reeeaaalllyyy hard to be a tablet?

EDIT: Look at this picture. This DE would be perfect for any touchscreen device.

I'm trying out Ubuntu 14.04, so far it's alright I guess. My laptop fans run loud for whatever reason on it now, but it's not terrible.

I really need to learn how to configure awesome wm. It seems so much better than i3 but it's harder to configure.

Also, nice wallpaper.

Awesome is a pain and frustrates me. There's a plethora of configs for it online but none of them are easy to modify to my taste so I just installed i3 and put things together from scratch. The next thing I'm thinking of doing is getting rid of i3bar and writing something to pipe into dzen2 and have that act as my status bar.

Instead of getting rid of i3bar entirely you could just get rid of i3status and display the output of a different command.
