Or you could edit your ships.

There is no way to fix it. The prefs on there are not as good as the vanilla config and I refuse to compromise on my ship designs in any way. The only way to get my ships to have the same shields on Elewyn as they have on a vanilla config is to make the ship bigger. Which in turn means I am really just making an entirely new ship. Yeah, not gonna happen.
