people need to realize that melee and smash in general is not all about character techniques and skills, it's all about mindgames
a guy who knows no special techniques has just as good a chance at winning as someone who does if they know how to mindgame

that's not true
this might apply more in 64 and melee since they're more combo-oriented but knowledge of special techniques lets you maximize damage output (like that gif moriarty posted), so it takes fewer reads/punishes to take someone out as opposed to if you didn't really know a lot
