The religions that think you will go to hell for not believing in some great creator makes no sense to me.

Why would he care what you think?
The issue of punishment for disbelief isn't so much about what you think and therefore what goes on in your mind, but what your soul does. And if a particular religion teaches it that disbelief is a sin that is a stain upon your soul.
And the general role of a hell is a place for the soul to be punished and cleansed.

And also, in many religions, particularly the abrahamic ones, God is a vengeful and jealous god. He will have no worship of false idols and punishes those who do not believe in his existence. Men are his creation and they are created the worship God. If that is the entire purpose of life, as those religions teach, then of course it makes sense for that particular deity to punish someone for not believing in him.

I think anything but this. His mom has every right to raise him how he wants. I think the OP should respect his moms opinions until he's older.
I have a right to chose my religion, though.

Except that Buddhists don't have a god, they just see Buddha as a normal guy or like a teacher or something and follow his teachings
IIRC there are certain adaptions of Buddhism that do.

There are three things I've learned to never discuss with the BLF. These are religion, politics, and my building skills.

However, tell her she needs to understand that freedom of religion is a thing. Then, both of you need to accept and respect eachother's beliefs.
I kept telling her that I respected her views, and she should respect mine. Oops.

Probably shouldn't have bothered telling her. Now you could get placed into a Catholic school or something.
No, my dad would have to agree.

I might lock this if any serious catfighting occurs.

The term is "sects"
And I believe some of them do revere Buddha as some sort of diety, but for the most part, they don't

I think the more common approach is to take Buddhism alongside belief in an entirely different religion. It's not uncommon for some Buddhists to also adhere to Hinduism alongside Buddhism.
The fact that Buddhism isn't a religion based around god-worship, and is instead a way to live ones life and achieve perfection, means it matches very well with many religious teachings. Particularly far-eastern religions.

I am a religious person and that is not how a christian is supposed to act at all lol

This.

Also, where the heck did SHE go to school??

If got created us for the sole purpose of worshipping him, he's an starfish.

Wow. I feel for ya man

OT: WTF is wrong with her. I know there's more than one religion. And My mom is not stupid as her.

well, you can't really apply our human values to something so incredibly enigmatic and, not-us

So a crack whore SHOULD raise their child to become addicted to drugs?
An abusive father SHOULD culminate the idea within their child that abuse is CORRECT?
There is no free will? We are just re-creations of our parents? What ever happened to all of those cliche movies where right as the dad dies, he says something to the son along the lines of "I've lived, now it's your chance to live."

No. This isn't what life is about. My parents wanted 2 kids, a dog, a nice house in the prim and proper Preston Village neighborhood. Me? I want tattoos, I don't want kids, I'd rather live in the city, I want to meet interesting people, I want to explore and see things that normal people don't see. I want to be ME, not THEM.
I am not my parents. They have their views, I have mine. I respect their views, and they respect mine. Sure, my mom and I both love strawberry icecream, dad and I love to go camping. I'm a Left-wing conservative, they're both strongly right wing.

Cari I love you but this is the one time I gotta cut you down. Do you do 100% of what your parents ask and expect of you? If you even think for a second 'yes,' shame on you. You're around 12-14 years old. Ballpark of 7 million minutes alive. If you mean to tell me you haven't upset them ONCE... Well stuff, jesus christo has been reborn.

I don't think he means it in such an extreme manner that you're taking it. Parents have to raise their kids with a foundation to lean on. They can raise them in a Biblical minded house (same with crack addicts and abusive parents) as something to rest on, but the kid will eventually have to make their own choice once they're old enough to make sense of what's around them.

Is your family conservative southern white

He did say they have every right to raise the kid how they want.

but the kid will eventually have to make their own choice once they're old enough to make sense of what's around them.

And their choices will be clouded by the way they've been raised.

Not always. Some children will develop a similar point of view to parents. Other children make take a role of utter resistance. The older the child gets, the more often the real world is in their face. Theyll be more inclined to conform to the standards and knowledge of today's generation. Within 20 years of adulthood, I doubt they'll still be doing things just because "mommy said so" or "papa did this".
