Author Topic: Horror Games On Steam Are Now Over-Overused  (Read 4229 times)

Too many generic horror games now-a-days...
Shame, I was going to make a couple of horror games until the genre became cliche.

Only just now overused?

You mean years ago?
Like, 2009 when everybody decided amnesia was the best thing?

Look on the horror genre on Steam, pretty much all of them are the same.
Very few are still unique.

Elaborate

Elaborate
he probably means the whole "oh hey you're trapped in a dark location and there's monsters or something and for some reason the person that kidnapped you made a very elaborate series of puzzles that you can totally solve to eventually kill him"

they're probably mostly all bad at causing horror as well

More like you wake up in a dark room with no memory and you are being pursued by sp00ky monsters.
Pretty much the same concept.

And while "no way to fight back, you can only hide" is a great system, I'd like to see a more unique system put in place.

I'm not sure what the system would be, be I'd like a developer to surprise the genre with a completely new system.

Outlast is overrated. You walk around, see a jumpscare, walk around some more, then get chased around a little bit until you hide in a locker, rinse and repeat.

The story is interesting.
