Author Topic: Things You Hate In Gaming Megathread  (Read 2871 times)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXA559KNopI some developer insight on microtransitions
they also discuss other stuff in their other videos that might be useful for discussion here

I hate it when the FOV slider doesn't go above 90 in shooters. 90 or below makes me kinda queasy.

I hate it when games don't have any writing or background to them whatsoever. I'm not even going to exclude far-fetched fan theories here, as those at least give some context to what you're doing.
i also like reading weird explanations for things devs dont fully explain, i.e. pokeballs

That being said, it's also not great when the writing is flat and devoid of all emotion. If you're going to give us some writing, put some depth into it so us fans can extrapolate the clues into somewhat-outlandish theories
i.e. ftl's rebellion being justified by your actions, black mesa's competition with aperture science

Good endings that you need to bend over backwards and forget your own ass just to achieve

Stupid loving invisible walls that wall of interesting areas of the map that look finished enough and would add another element to the area

This doesn't includes games like KSP, Starmade, Prison architect, or other games that actually update with content and are actively fixing bugs and stuff.
speaking of KSP, it's coming out of early access in the next update but yeah you're right there with the actively updating it

i kinda hate non persistent worlds
and games that recycle content

mmos are a massive offender to persistency
youre offered nearly the same opportunities as everyone else
same quests
same items
same resources
same enemies

cut down a tree for it to respawn 10 seconds later
find the legendary excalibur only to find out everyone else has the same sword
fight the wicked last dragon of its kind only to find out everyone else has already killed it a week ago
complete a secret quest only to find out everyones already done it TWICE
oh no you died, but dont worry, youre alive again with no penalties!!!!1

its all a spoon feeding fantasy

something that we could use less of

it worked in runescape classic, despite its many static features
having full rune in those days labeled you a god due to the grind to get there

i have nothing to say about grinding
its both effective and noneffective

and games that recycle content
So you just don't like games in general?

Games that are so freaking awesome but can be beaten in one day.

Like Driver: San Francisco.

generic enemies like spiders and skeletons

Like the way 90% of mmo's or ftp games are like. It's usually not even that fun and just you doing tedious things and if it is fun then the game tries to shove microtransactions all the way down your throat. A game that does this right is Trackmania Nations Forever, for free you get a good amount of content and if you pay a one time price then you get everything.  I'm usually okay with microtransactions if they're completely optional and are only there for those people who want to things like unlock stuff quicker than at a NORMAL pace. Not when the game pace bogs down to a level so low that literally must spend 100's of dollars sometimes just have fun with the game. It's even worse when you paid for the game in the first place.

I want to know who got hit with a brick and thought this was a good idea

games which supposedly support older machines, but have no actual optimization for them whatsoever
"oh, this game runs on your grandma's pc! except, like, half of the textures will probably be missing and you can't actually complete the main mission because it crashes at that one point consistently"
