Author Topic: Tezuni - Removing Credit from RL / Glorified Paywall  (Read 41106 times)

I still think it's stuffty that he didn't give credit to Zapk

Someone released this gamemode and Zapk seemed to be ok with it.

micro transactions is a very debatable topic, js
how is a one time donation of 20 dollars "micro transactions"

fine, macro

Trails and Rising Lava are made by Zapk.  Download the gamemode and read the description.txt
He's given credit just now. And if you can easily download the gamemode and read the description.txt and see who made it, then that's all the credit needed.

There's no obligation for Tezuni to have a sign/message in his servers saying "This gamemode/Trails created by Zapk!".
The information on who made them is publically available, Tezuni isn't claiming to have created them, he understandably doesn't want to advertise a notorious user on his servers, and I'm sure that if you were on his server and asked who created the gamemode/trails that Tezuni or someone else available would tell you.

It's not like everyone expects every single Speedkart server to have a welcome message saying "Speedkart created by Filipe/Badspot".

For the most part, this just seems to be a few people trying to police how other people spend their money.

If you have a problem with people donating to the server, then confront the people donating, not the server host. He's not doing anything wrong in having a donation system, even if he is giving incentives for donating.
If there was someone selling turds he's produced, and people are buying, who's in the wrong here? The person selling turds, or the people buying them? He's not forcing anyone to pay for this stuff at all.

I'll be frank and just say that I'm impressed that one member of the community has the entrepreneurial mindset to get some money back for his work and hosting. And if he earns a profit on that, then congratulations to him.

Only thing tezuni should remove is the non-cosmetic stuff you get from donating like weapons, teleport commands and stuff

Retextures of already existing available to public weapons would be alright though.

Other than that there is absolutely no problem with it other than the donation values are a bit pricy imo, but you can just get the lower ones anyways.

How is donating "a bit pricy?" You can donate however amount you want...

I think he meant the rewards for the donating are a little out of sync with the specific amount required to donate to recieve those rewards
Which I can kind of see. If you were going to donate solely for the rewards, then it might not seem a great deal.
But it is a donation, so getting rewards shouldn't be the sole reason for donating. If someone is donating just for the rewards, and is upset with the required donations for each reward, that's their problem.

Yeah rewards wise, but that doesn't really matter if you're donating to donate so whatever

Funny thing is not a single person complained about having to pay for in-game coins on Wicked's RPG.

I didn't know that was a thing. If I did, I probably would have complained.

Having people pay for bonuses, cosmetic or otherwise, is not having them 'donate', it is a transaction. Saying 'But it goes to a cause!!!!' does not make it a donation. Making the payment button say 'Donate' on it does not make it a donation. You are getting money, and in exchange, are giving the person who gave you money exclusive equipment. Saying that it is a 'free gift as thanks for their money' is not an acceptable excuse.

A man commits a murder and gets caught. A different man commits a murder and isn't caught. This makes murder right, yes?

Looks like I didn't state what I meant right. Whoops.
What I meant was that just because someone else did it, it isn't necessarially right.
