I follow Bell and do the same thing except with a bit of flak.

OFFICIAL THREAD MUSIC

You open fire on the clouds and see bullets and flak shells plinking off of thin air.

: Hmph. [The barbarians found us quicker than usual. They must be getting savvy. Drop the disguise and return fire!]

Almost immediately, the clouds around you disappear and the mystery airship makes itself visible. Its' three SAM batteries open fire, targeting Oxide, Mbombe, and Sabre.
: [Load missile tubes three and four! Target the final cruiser escort... Fire! If we can't take down this carrier ourselves, we can at least make it easier for the next sub.]

Two more missiles are let fly from the stealth ship, and though one is intercepted by point-defense, the other blows the second air cruiser to pieces. It drops out of the sky, leaving a thick trail of smoke.

In addition, since nobody finished it off, the final remaining drone launches its remaining missiles directly at the carrier's flight decks. Apparently it hit some ammo stores, because a massive fireball is belched out of the lower deck.

I fire a heatseeker at the last drone, then spray it with a bit of flak. After that, I fire my last RGM at the skysub's engine, keeping it in the radar cone this time.

I see friendly aircraft firing into a cloud. I pull a hard turn and line up to the cloud. I'm not in gun range, and I doubt the 30mm will do little more than make whatever is there angry.

Then it appears.

A submarine looking ship in the sky. I thought these things had to generate there own lift? What is this?!

The heatseekers get pissed and will only lock the LAMS pod or the engine. I attempt to lock onto the bridge structure, the radar gets confused, but eventually locks. I fire two JSM's at the bridge structure. Two little missiles streak away.

RWR gets forgetin' mad. I drop chaff and pull off.

Bell targets the CIWS emplacement defending the engine and opens fire with a HSM aimed directly at it and an AAM that swings around at a wide angle towards a SAM emplacement.

"Prioritize that shock cannon next, we've seen what it can do."

I begin attacking the engine bay with my coaxials.

Shooting the engines won't stop the weapons from firing though

true but generally flying things need their engines

Yes but aforementioned flying thing will still fire its missiles while it's falling.

As if shooting the propelling engine would cause it to fall. The thing certainly isn't generating much lift.

The RWR beeps furiously as I'm spiked by the newly revealed airship. A trail of smoke forms from a point on the ship as the missile approach warning goes off. I look down at the countermeasures panel. Even if I shake this one off, I probably won't have any chaff left to fend off another radar-guided missile.

"Hoo, stuff! Sabre, defending SAM launch!"

I immediately turn towards the missile to make use of my small frontal radar cross-section. As the missile comes into view, I pull into a loop and drop chaff to evade.

It could actually cause some problems if the loss of altitude is spread out over distance by the forward momentum of the airship, at least if you leave the weapons active.

I launch some JSMs into the control tower.

protip : rocketpods are handy dandy for overwhelming point defense systems

The drone is shot down. As is your missile, by the CIWS.

You fire your only remaining JSM at the bridge, only for it to be bipped into oblivion by the LAMS. At least this variant shows no interest in targeting you, unlike the Octarius' guns.

Fresh off of shooting down the RGM from Talisman, the CIWS opens fire on the HSM, taking it down as well. It then turns to fire on the AAM, but it is too late, and the LAMS is busy shooting down Oxide's missile.

I begin attacking the engine bay with my coaxials.
It takes some damage, but seems to be weathering the storm pretty well.

I immediately turn towards the missile to make use of my small frontal radar cross-section. As the missile comes into view, I pull into a loop and drop chaff to evade.
The missile is spoofed.

I launch some JSMs into the control tower.
One of them impacts, the other is taken out by the laser. You are then hit by the SAM fired at you last turn.

: [Helm, there's a gorge to the northeast. Get us down there, let's see if these savages are dumb enough to follow us. Aft missile tubes, load up! We'll give that carrier a little goodbye present.]

The sub dives and puts on a surprising amount of speed, headed away from the combat zone and towards one of Kiraza's many large canyons.
