"The Taiho flight is probably carrying some heavier munitions for the job, and rockets will probably work too." Bell prepares a heatseeker as the flight is approaching the battle. "Maybe you can hit the target's cannons, but we still have to get rid of those escorts anyway, so let's focus on that task for now."

"Maybe you can hit the target's cannons, but we still have to get rid of those escorts anyway, so let's focus on that task for now."

"I recognize that. But there's no way I'm going to be able to hit something as nimble as a fighter with my coaxial armament. They aren't even considered autocannons."

I would just be sitting there with a blank stare, zoned out. The coffee is cold.

"Oxide requesting permission to engage,"

"How heavily armored is this... barge? I may need you to rearm my coaxials with armor penetrating munitions, AWACS. Otherwise I'd just be giving its crew a fireworks display... and if I can't engage ground targets, I'm partially useless without penetrating ammo. This is all, of course, only true if the barge is armored enough to withstand high explosives from a UAC/2."
: [He's asking us to rearm his cannons. Does he not... I don't think he knows.] Uh, rearmament procedures are limited to external pylon-mounted munitions only.
(UACs shoot HEAT rounds, they're meant to kill tanks. You're fine.)

"I recognize that. But there's no way I'm going to be able to hit something as nimble as a fighter with my coaxial armament. They aren't even considered autocannons."
: Relax, I've got your back. Just focus on the barge.

"Oxide requesting permission to engage,"
Your response comes not from the AWACS, but from an enemy fighter locking on to you, likely with a Radar-guided missile.

"...Right, my apologies. I have little experience with the capability of the technology inside of an AWACS aircraft."

Indignant, I fall silent and begin establishing a lock with one of my joint strike missiles on a hostile fighter.

"AWACS, can you give a quick sitrep on the enemy escorts?" Bell also checks her radar screen, before looking back up and breaking off to gain some altitude.

"I would like someone to protect my ass." I say nervously. "AWACS, give me some notable targets."

btw what is this big target thing

being i have two bombs on my plane that can take out a building, im probably the guy.

The RWR starts chirping, and turns over from a now-and-then chirp to the solid tracking tone. I feel my pulse jump. I look at the RWR panel. Airborne locking. Zero to ten degrees left off my nose. Above.

"RWR spike, breaking!," I radio.

I yank the stick into my gut. The aircraft responds and turns sharply upward. I'm pulling a lot of G's, and the aircraft shudders. I gain about one hundred meters and roll onto my back at the top of the climb, cease the climb and turn sharp left, ready to start laying chaff.

Once I establish a lock, I fire off a missile and break away, attempting to gain distance and altitude. This aircraft isn't intended for a thick dogfight.

: Negative, we're getting some sort of radar interference in there. All we can tell you is that there's around a dozen individual contacts, not counting the barge itself.

A quick look at your own radar confirms what vagueness you were just told.

"AWACS, give me some notable targets."
: Its underside is bristling with artillery cannons, and it possesses anti-air emplacements topside. I don't know if we can actually kill it here, but if we neutralize its firepower, at least it'll stop hammering our ground forces.

It's a this. Two bombs will help, but will not be enough to destroy the whole thing.

Once I establish a lock, I fire off a missile and break away. This aircraft isn't intended for a thick dogfight.
The hostile plane dumps flares, but too late. The missile strikes it side-on and blows a gaping hole in its side. As the pilot attempts to regain control of their aircraft, you are able to identify its silhouette as that of a Saab Draken.

The maneuver breaks the lock, but the enemy plane almost immediately begins to reacquire you. At least you're far closer than you were before, and able to use your own missiles.

"Talisman, requesting permission to engage fighters."

"Talisman, requesting permission to engage fighters."
Another Kintharian fighter goes down in flames.
: DAMN YOUR PROTOCOL, HELP US ALREADY.

I take advantage of the enemy plane's weakened state, and aim back towards it from my climb, firing the gunpod on my aircraft's belly at it.

I turn on the Artemis module and face the battle zone. The Artemis gets confused attempting to target the large dirigible, but does, at least for a few seconds.

I wait for the launch tone. The missiles start growling. I ripple fire the two RGM's. They fly away leaving silver threads behind them.
