The NSSR creates a handheld device that can shine a laser - briefly, before overheating - that exudes a total energy of about 120kJ, which is about 30 times that of a sniper rifle bullet; however, firing at this capacity can damage the gun, the heat emitted by the beam can harm nearby people, and it uses about 20 AA battery's worth of power or 2 D batteries' worth per shot, so it's usually fired at about 5% capacity. This is deemed "good enough" and the laser research program is suspended to focus funds on Katerina.
Canada and the German Empire were part of this project.
In addition, superconductors up to 500K have been completed with Canada. The NSSR is now looking into applications.
