Author Topic: Do you believe in any kind of afterlife?  (Read 11970 times)

isn't it kind of scary to think that after death there is only nothingness? i mean, you as a person simply cease to exist, the only part of you that remains is your body. it's like someone pushed an off button

i mean, it's pretty pessimistic, i'd like to think something happens after you die, but i'm not a religious person
Yep no consciousness forever.  Which is why I like the idea of reincarnation because you get to rediscover the world all over again. Whatever happens, happens I guess.

I don't believe in a true religion. Before Islam, Christianty, and Juddahism, you have all these different religions. You had people who worshipped things in nature like earth spirits, animal spirits, plant spirits. You had people who believed in many gods like a sun and moon god. People like gods like Zeus, Thor, Odin, Mars, Rah, Osiris, etc. You had people who worshipped anthromorphic beings who represented things like the Aztec god Chantico who was a woman, she represents things like fire and volcanos and what not.

Then came along the jews with its many branches and sects, then people stole their religion and called themselves Christians with its many branches and sects, then came along Islam with its many branches and sects.

Atheism is pretty secular in itself with two branches: The doesn't give a stuff branch and the neck beard branch. One branch has one step: Don't give a forget, that is the only step you have to follow. Now religions have a type of uniform, Monks for example wear robes, nuns wear a black dress that covers most of their body, jews wear black fedoras and a yamaka. They have have different books and rituals, A Christian or a catholic might read the bible and go to church, the muslim will pray at a certain time during the day and face mecca while doing it. The Neckbeard atheist is much the same, he grows a unique facial hair like any religious person does, except this religion requires you grow and ungroomed neckbeard. The Neckbeard wears a tiny hat and sometimes a trench coat, he also holds a book of science that has a picture of Carl Sagan permanently taped on the cover page. Everyday he must perform the holy ritual of cherry picking all the wrongs religion has done, often citing how religion has oppressed them by having it rammed down their throat while they themselves try to force convert people. After finishing their mission, they begin their holy prayer and chant which consists of praising the advancements of science and nothing else, only sicence and Carl Sagan.

How do you know one of those religions didn't come first?

I believe in Creation so to me Christianity was first

i hope there isn't an afterlife because life in hell would just be infinite burning and burning hurts. life in heaven would be so "perfect" that it would become boring. conflict is what makes stuff interesting

reincarnation seems pretty cool though

No, I don't.
When you die, you die. You're not alive anymore. You can't do anything. RIP soul.

Because Judaism is one of the oldest of the three Abrahamic religions in the world. It goes back to 535 BC. Around that time the Egyptians were worshipping gods like Rah and Osiris. The people in the middle were worshipping celestial bodies. Europe was full of Germanic barbarians that worshipped various pagan gods.

Fast forward to the times of Greece and Rome and people were still Celebrating Zeus/Jupiter, Ares/Mars, Athena/Nirvana, etc. Everyone else in Europe still believed in the Pagan gods, the Egyptians still worshipped their own gods, the arabs still worshipped celestrial bodies. The jews had been long since established and known around the few civilized places of the world. They were kicked out their land by the Romans and renamed the land Palestine by the Romans. Christianity comes along and steals ideas from Judaism. They appeared later on and were persecuted by the Romans. Eventually the old religion of worshipping the Greek gods and Christianity became the religion in Europe. Which is why you can find Pope in Italy. However to the north you had people like the Gals, the Celts, the Vikings, the goths and various german tribes that worshipped the pagan religions.

So no, Christianity was not first of the three, nor was it the first religion period.

The Cavendish is one of my favorite banana varieties. You will bring energy to someone.
