isn't it kind of scary to think that after death there is only nothingness? i mean, you as a person simply cease to exist, the only part of you that remains is your body. it's like someone pushed an off button
i mean, it's pretty pessimistic, i'd like to think something happens after you die, but i'm not a religious person
Yep no consciousness forever. Which is why I like the idea of reincarnation because you get to rediscover the world all over again. Whatever happens, happens I guess.
I don't believe in a true religion. Before Islam, Christianty, and Juddahism, you have all these different religions. You had people who worshipped things in nature like earth spirits, animal spirits, plant spirits. You had people who believed in many gods like a sun and moon god. People like gods like Zeus, Thor, Odin, Mars, Rah, Osiris, etc. You had people who worshipped anthromorphic beings who represented things like the Aztec god Chantico who was a woman, she represents things like fire and volcanos and what not.
Then came along the jews with its many branches and sects, then people stole their religion and called themselves Christians with its many branches and sects, then came along Islam with its many branches and sects.
Atheism is pretty secular in itself with two branches: The doesn't give a stuff branch and the neck beard branch. One branch has one step: Don't give a forget, that is the only step you have to follow. Now religions have a type of uniform, Monks for example wear robes, nuns wear a black dress that covers most of their body, jews wear black fedoras and a yamaka. They have have different books and rituals, A Christian or a catholic might read the bible and go to church, the muslim will pray at a certain time during the day and face mecca while doing it. The Neckbeard atheist is much the same, he grows a unique facial hair like any religious person does, except this religion requires you grow and ungroomed neckbeard. The Neckbeard wears a tiny hat and sometimes a trench coat, he also holds a book of science that has a picture of Carl Sagan permanently taped on the cover page. Everyday he must perform the holy ritual of cherry picking all the wrongs religion has done, often citing how religion has oppressed them by having it rammed down their throat while they themselves try to force convert people. After finishing their mission, they begin their holy prayer and chant which consists of praising the advancements of science and nothing else, only sicence and Carl Sagan.
