I think it is pretty important since it's been a key element in other games.
it couldn't be very important because the only thing it had any effect on was followers which are trash to begin with

i have found a legendary shotgun

every projectile it fires explodes for 15 damage

i do not know how many projectiles it fires individually but i know for a fact that it does 194 combined direct damage + all the individual explosions

shooting it at close range instantly kills me, so it definitely does upwards of 200 damage through explosions alone

the game is completely broken and i love it

So I now have a total of 40 hours played.

My general opinion is that Fallout 4 is a huge step back in every possible way. I think the fact that the game is no longer an RPG speaks for itself. Its now just an FPS with some minecraft and rpg twists in it. Heres a list of me ranting off about things I dont like.

  • No more skill trees. Leveling has just been replaced with perks, which makes no sense whatsoever. Hell, this is even a step back from Skyrims leveling system.
  • No more branching dialogue. This is really the thing that is grinding my gears and what is making me not even count this as an RPG. You have four options in every conversation, Explain, Yes, No, or Maybe. Remember how in literally every other Fallout (or even Elder Scrolls) you could delve through all sorts of conversations? Curious about a city or someones personal life? Simple, just ask them. Here, you cant even engage in conversation with half the people. Remember Virgil? The scientist from the Institute that escaped? He'd be a wealth of knowledge and could tell you so many things about the Institute that you may not know, but nope. After you help him he just tells you he's too busy to talk.
  • The UI is loving stuff. I complained about this in the first hour the game came out, and now 40 hours later I'm still complaining about it. Its janky as forget on PC, and im legitimately starting to think Bethesda doesnt give a stuff about pc gamers.
  • Questing is linear as forget, and I havent come across literally ANY quirky or memorable quests thus far. Fallout 2 you could become a researchstar. In Fallout 3 you had the Oasis. Fallout New Vegas you had Come Fly With Me or Wang Dang Atomic Tango. In fallout 4? I havent come across stuff.
  • Diamond city is supposed to be the largest, most interesting city in the game, but its even lamer than Megaton from Fallout 3. I thought Diamond City was going to be the equivalent of New Vegas, but in Boston, but it doesnt even compare to Freeside. They really dropped the ball on cities this game, and no, Settlements dont make up for it.
  • The settlement system is alright, but it doesnt feel very polished. I cant complain too much about it though being as ive put more than half my time into building stuff.
  • The dialogue isnt even good. For how much they spouted off about it, it all feels really flat.
  • My character in conversation doesnt match my character in gameplay.
  • Various lore reasons im not going to get into.
  • While cool, they loving give you power armor 10 minutes into the game. Ill be the first to admit, the power armor system in Fallout 4 is loving fantastic. It really feels like power armor, and that you're a walking tank inside of it. But the fact that they give it to you right in the beginning seems like a weird design flaw. Not to mention you literally see raiders in the stuff all the time. Remember when you had to get specialized training in order to use the stuff?
  • Literally every quest is a variation on "Go fetch this" or "Go kill these things"

But as much as I complain, I actually enjoyed my 40 hours of playing thus far. A lot of my displeasure just comes from disappointment.
When Bethesda made Fallout 3, I could see how they messed up a lot of things from the original Fallout games. They were old, and I wouldnt even be surprised if a lot of the dev team hadnt even played them. But then Obsidian came out with New Vegas, and showed how the game should have been. Skills made more sense, locations had a lot of depth to them, and it was full of interesting characters and quests.

And thats okay. Each game should be an improvement over the last. Fallout 1 was great, Fallout 2 was better. Fallout 3 took a lot of steps forward, but a lot of steps back, but then Fallout New Vegas came along and made improvements on everything Fallout 3 did wrong. But in Fallout 4, it seems Bethesda wasnt even trying to make improvements on New Vegas, and there is no excuse for that. They had a chance to make this one of the best Fallouts so far, using all the things that Obsidian improved on, but instead they disregarded everything.

Im just disappointed. I've been a fan of Bethesda since Morrowind, one of my favourite RPGs of all time. But it seems like with every release they take multiple steps back. Oblivion was a step back from Morrowind, and Skyrim was a step back from Oblivion. But even so, when I heard Bethesda was making a Fallout game, a series that was a huge part in my childhood, I was ecstatic. Even though Fallout 3 was a massive disappointment to me, I still managed to put tons of hours into it. But Fallout 4 is almost inexcusable.

Bethesda has gone from one of my favourite studios to one of my least favourite, and im going to have to think long and hard about buying another one of their games. The only thing im happy about is that im a PC gamer, and once the modkit gets released, im sure there will be tons of mods to actually turn the game into an actual RPG.

Overall I'd give the game a 5/10. Just average.

This really bugged me. I was excited that maybe i was gonna have to work for it but no they just give it to you on a silver platter first 10 minutes in. I literally feel like all the trailer stuff you see was immediately obtainable and that really all they were selling was the trailer and not the rest of the game.

I don't have nearly as many complaints as i've immensely enjoyed sinking some hours into this game and i'm probably more forgiving than other people who've played it. But the power armor thing really gave me a poor impression.

Right? I feel like power armor is one of those things you're supposed to build up to. In previous games they've gotten it right, where you see Enclave or BoS soldiers wearing it, and it gives you the impression of "Holy stuff I want that but I cant have it" until eventually you earn the right to wear it.

Here, you get it without training or any work required. Not to mention it feels a little cheapened when you see raiders with it. It reminds me of Oblivion where, at a certain level, you'd see bandits wearing endgame-tier armor[/list]

wtf boone in new vegas saved my ass multiple times with his rifle skills. maybe it's just because of my fps average and couldn't aim right but still

i don't really understand whats wrong with the ui, its much better than having some really loving tacky and overwhelming ui where you have to pay attention to too much stuff at once.

and plus if you even bothered to look at the opening cutscene and opening in general you'd realise that your character is meant to be a soldier who already has training in stuff like this.

well, the male character is. Female Survivor has a law degree which well prepared her for power armor combat.

The UI is designed for consoles. Not for PC. Have you ever actually used a decent PC UI? Because if you have you would realize how clunky and stuffty this one is.

Also from the opening cutscene it shows the male being a soldier, I played a female. Even if I did have training to use it, it doesnt excuse Bethesda giving you the armor 10 minutes into the game, or the fact that raiders are able to use it just fine.

Speaking of too much stuff to pay attention to, i feel that the multi layer armor system can get a bit hectic because i'm scrolling up and down the pipboy to see what i'm wearing on each of my limbs and running comparisons. I know you have the little + and - sign to indicate what armor is better than what you're wearing but there are other things too i like to compare. I really like to build aesthetically when picking my armor.

Also paintjobs, its really hard to check what your paintjob looks like on your power armor when the loving green glow is highlighting the armor piece while you're modifying it dammit.

I play almost exclusively on PC these days and I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The Fallout 4 UI is just fine? What do you mean by "decent PC UI"?

he means hes running out of things to complain about

Basically look at any Bethesda games default UI, and then look the mods that fixed them. Skyrims Default vs SkyUI, for example. Or the Darnified UI for previous Fallout games. They're less cluttered, more information is displayed at one time, ect.

Except im not. Ive said before I'm enjoying Fallout 4. I dont know why I would make things up to complain about in a game im enjoying. Also, im not the only one complaining about it.

the power armor you get at the start is terrible, uses cells too fast and breaks easy

what different kind of power armor is there besides t-45x?
