yeah but then you'd probably get lower grain shots and actually need a bullet that fits in the casing of whatever the size a 10mm bullet is
though i guess since you shoot out of guns made of scrap wood and pipes idk why you can't make bullets

My dad collects empty bullet casings on the gun range that people don't care to pick up and then he buys the bullet heads and powders separately and is able to make his own bullets half the price it would be at a store.

In-fact it does, moron.

I already explained why selling bullets at 1/7th of a trade value is not a logical choice.

Why would you as a trader exchange 7 of your .38 bullets for 1 10mm bullet? You wouldn't unless you were handicapped. Exchanging bullets for bullets would only make sense if it were 1:1 (excluding special kinds of ammo).

hey guys, look, tony is repeating himself again! point and laugh.

yeah but my premise was switching .38 bullets into 10mm casings would probably cause problems
it would actually be pretty cool if you could buy/create the components for a bullet (bullet/casing/powder/pin/etc) and then make them in mass

unless that's how it worked in previous fallout games? i've never played any others

You can't, exactly.

You need your own 10mm casing and bullet heads to fit the size of 10mm. You're only taking apart the .38 bullets for the powder.

However you can craft a combustion generator with just some tin cans so I'm sure Fallout 4 would have made it so you could make your own casings out of brass or whatever.

So, you'd have to pick up every spent 10mm casing you fire, just so could convert .38 bullets to 10mm.

Realistically, no one would ever do this. Plus I have no problem finding 10mm rounds, and I use the Deliverer all the time, and its a 10mm gun. I have well over a thousand for it, and i've only bought about 100 rounds. Try having more than 1 main gun, that usually helps.

In NV you get plenty of casings from traders, containers or dead bodies.

You can't pick up casings off the ground from your own gun but that would be pretty cool if you could.

But why would I? This seems to be something only you desire. While I think crafting special ammunition could be cool, like hollow point rounds or incendiary rounds, I don't feel the game is missing much without it. I would have taken more weapon types over ammo crafting.

technically, there's a perk that lets you retrieve spent casing. It's RNG based or something.

wait people have ammo problems in this game
1. go pick up maccready
2. get max relationship with him (you don't need to sleep with him)
3. enjoy 2000 percent accuracy on vats headshots

I don't have any ammo problems. Then again, I use a arsenal of guns.

i'm pretty sure casings automatically enter your inventory when you use ammo. only a certain percentage of casings are saved, though.

to my experience this is what happens

I'm only using the .38 guns so I can kill enough raiders to get enough 10mm bullets so I can start using that instead.

I'm only saving up on ammo for the guns I'm not currently using.

So I have a stockpile of useless bullets for guns I don't like to use and I can't deconstruct these bullets to craft bullets for guns I'd rather use.

Try having multiple guns you want to use. For example, I use a shotgun, the deliverer, a .50 cal sniper, and the limitless potential. I use whichever gun is appropriate for the situation, and I have plenty of ammo for all of them. Tbh, I only ever had problems with ammo at the very beginning of the game, and then I used melee for ghouls, weak creatures, and melee raiders.

There is only 3 guns I want to use and I don't have bullets for them.

It doesn't help that every enemy is a bullet sponge and I'm wasting about 30+ bullets per enemy.
