My problem with The Institute is that they're basically the Enclave but with even better tech. I probably would have supported them too, had they not messed around with the FEV which made me lose all respect for the forgeters. Combined with their same attitudes (both Institute and Enclave are high and mighty, believing all the Wastelanders are dirty scum who don't know better, and both groups use technology which they don't understand), I'm amazed people are supporting them as much as they are.

whats wrong with synths :(

Nothing, since I destroyed the entire Institute, laid them all to rest and finished Fallout 4.

Sometimes, someone in the commonwealth is abducted and replaced by a synth that looks identical to them, and those synths usually try to do things considered bad like murder and theft.
Anyone you know could be a synth your brother could be a synth etc.

I really wish you could intimidate people without charisma, it feels like if you have any less than 10 you just fail every speech check even if you're one menacing motherforgeter with a scary weapon that could kill someone in an instant

Also is it just me or are most drugs pretty much useless now? Obviously stuff like Jet, Psycho, and Med-X that provide unique boosts are still good, but things like Mentats and Buffout that raise your SPECIAL stats feel pointless to me

In the last two games you could pop some Mentats and slip on a lab coat if you were a few points short of picking a lock, but now that seems pointless now that there aren't any skills to boost; you get a couple extra experience points and hit percentage in VATS for a little while but it's so negligible it's really not worth the chance of addiction and loss of damage protection

The biggest and worst oversight in the entire game, which by rights should lose it all awards, bankrupt Bethesda and shame all their families for generations to come, is the fact that the pre-war Vault-Tec Barter Bobblehead holds a cap as currency, rather than a dollar or gold.

0/10 worst game 2015

Well, personally i think they're more useful in fallout 4 than they were 3 now that you can use them to raise special above 10.
In fallout 3, the only thing i ever used mentats for were if i was a few points short of a lock or computer, by the time i had my science and lockpick high enough i basically never used them again.

That's my point though, you can't even use them for that now because there's no skill requirement for actions anymore, it's all perks

SPECIAL seems like it affects what perks you can take a lot more than the other things like VATS hit chance, so it's not worth getting addicted to Mentats just to get an extra 5% hit chance for an hour or whatever it actually is

I've got to agree with Regulith.

By itself a temporary increase in Intelligence only gives you an increase in gained experience, provided you even gain any while it is boosted.
It does not give you access to higher INT perks, nor increased chance of completing certain speech checks.

In Fallout 3 however, temporarily increasing INT via clothing or drugs would temporarily boost all INT skills by a few points, including medicine, repair and science.
This meant in a pinch you could go from unable to hack an Expert terminal to able, or you could complete a science/intelligence/repair related speech check or action.

Fallout 4 is alright, but the Intelligence stat is thrown under the bus a bit as there is no immediate bonus to temp boosting it.
Boosting any other may at least help in combat (STR raises melee damage, PER increases VATS chance, END increases health, AGI increases sneak and AP, Luck increases crit rate/recharge), or be useful in conversations and trade with Charisma.

Desdemona thinks Glory is dead for some reason??

Wait, people use stuff like Buffout and Mentats?

The only ones I use are Stimpacks, RadAway and Purified Water, which I've got a massive stockpile of. I frequently sell off everything else and absolutely rake the caps in.

I use Buffout and occasionally Mentats but never Jet or Psycho. Post-war drugs seem dirty to me.

I always keep Jet and Psycho hoping there will be something really hard that I'll need them for but since I've played so much I know which areas have which enemies in them so I subconsciously avoid them and never have any trouble
