Author Topic: Base Raiders [BETA!!!]  (Read 23707 times)


What?
Base Raiders is a gamemode that Reinforcements made and hosted from approximately February 16, 2015 to August 06, 2015. You made a gang, picked a building, started up a base, built printers to print money, and then defended your base. Or you could just go around and attack other people's bases for money.



Why?
I am going to college real soon so I'm shutting this down for now. Thank you everyone for playing and thank you admins for admining. It's been great. Whether or not I'll ever host again is unknown at this time :^|
You should consider either giving it to a trusted host or releasing it to the public.
When I asked, he said he wasn't going to.

So I decided to remake it, but as a Slayer gamemode. With some more improvements.



Plans
It's now going to be a Slayer gamemode and it's going to be entirely minigame dependent; meaning that you could potentially have two people running their own Base Raiders minigames on the same server. It's going to include lots of Slayer preferences and will use Slayer's new gamemode API.
I'm also making a Base Raiders client for easily seeing item prices, brick prices, and brick damage multipliers.
When it's finished I plan on either having someone very trustworthy host it, and then release it later. Or just release it to the public when it's done.


Progress
Slayerness - Around 100% done with Slayer integration.

Gangs - Still have some work to do here. Gangs are going to be a combination of brick groups and Slayer teams. Around 100%.

Item buying - Just about done here. 100%.

Phases - 100%. All done here.

Power - Just about done. 100%.

Brick buying and placing junk - Meh. 100%.

Admin commands/stuff - Pretty much done, unless there's something else for me to add. 100%.

Printer bricks - A little ways to go. Thanks to Darksaber2213 for the printer brick! 100%.

Storage bricks - Almost nothing done here yet. 100%. Thanks to Darksaber2213 for the safe brick!

My only suggestion is to add more levels to the money printers, beyond the Press/advanced ones. I'd say 7 levels would work.
Also in terms of power, add some sort of per player cap on power usage, because one frequently bullstuff issue that everybody encountered was that two major gangs would own like 400/160 power and couldn't be torn down in any way. Manual printers wouldn't cut it either.

It would be interesting if you added power generators or batteries to operate printers, which would make the Power system more balanced.

My only suggestion is to add more levels to the money printers, beyond the Press/advanced ones. I'd say 7 levels would work.

base raiders only works if money is limited/consolidated; if you set per player limits then there wouldn't be as much conflict. power generators would only support big gangs even more; they'd be the only few to have the $ to buy generators, and just take all the power they generate.
imo a better solution is to buff manual printers a bit; make it deplete manual power less quickly so that players without auto printers don't have to sit there for 10 minutes just to get enough $ for decent weapons because they can't leave it unattended

and honestly, for an "unbalanced" system, big gangs tended to have a short lifespan under the spotlight. personally i think its the "need" to take down a gang quickly that frustrates players; they want to fight back against the big gang, but don't want to spend the time to prepare enough material to do so.


as for sounds you can probably find a lot of good ones online for free. here's some sounds you can use (if its too long or whatever, modify in audacity or something).

A power limit per gang would probably be a good idea, if it's really high. Just so it doesn't get to the point of being ridiculous.

If you mean that you need to be near a power source to place anything that takes up power, and there can only be a limited amount of power gotten from each source; Reinforcements tried that it limited things too much and didn't work out very well.

No, Base Raiders is funnier, because in the Gmod version you must announce what you will do and its more like a city RPG. Base raiders is more like a fortwars

could you please keep the ui names of the bricks the same old "1x5x4" or whatever? on reins it got real confusing when i were searching for a 1x6 and i ended up selecting all the bricks that weren't that size because all the brick ui names were the same "Barricade Strength 1" crap

Yep. I was already doing that. All brick names and weapon names will be unchanged. I'm making a Base Raiders client to make it so that it displays the cost/stats of weapons and bricks when you select them.
