the builds look great. the wide hallways don't seem very star trekky, generally the hallways are thin, though they are still good.
Where did you see pictures of the hallways? Believe me, the hallways inside the ship are considerably more cramped. In most places they're only 6-8 blocks wide. I've also constructed many parts of this ship (the "old enterprise" build) to be a bit maze-like so that the ship feels bigger on the inside as a result.
one of the first servers i ever joined on this game was a star trek roleplay set in a very large (at least in my memory) ship. they had elevators through different floors that would apply velocity and then have ramps appear to force you out at the right floor. i remember i found a broom and pushed people out of an unfinished area and into space, until i was "detained" by some hardcore roleplayers and quit. i wonder if one of you hosted it?
That sounds interesting, lol. Nah I probably didn't host it. It might've been Captain C and his friends though. They did stuff like that.
More pictures coming in 30 minutes-ish. This time I will be showing off the Daedalus class Starship!
This ship is one I worked on a ton YEARS ago, starting back in fall 2011 and abruptly stopping work on in late 2012 when I began my 3-year hiatus (I shifted over to StarMade, but just recently came back to BL full-time). I had thought I lost it forever as I had deleted all my old BL save files, and was really bummed out because I made the terrible mistake of never posting pictures of this ship online. But fortunately for me I still had this in that huge .zip file on my Email server, and now I can share it with you all for the first time!
Unlike the "Blok Trek USS Enterprise" build that Captain C and I worked on together, this project was solely my creation. I built its design off of
this image of the Daedalus, which served as my side view for reference; you can see the ship looks identical to the image in many ways. I have poured tons of work into it and I am very proud of what I have finished so far. This ship is about 65% done as of this post.
Some Background History
This was Starfleet's first "stock ship", being mass-produced during the Earth-Romulan war of the 2160's (right before the founding of the Federation). It was basically a cheap Constitution-class equivalent for its era, 80 years before the Constitution came onto the scene, and 65-ish years before the Kelvin as seen in JJ's Star Trek. It had less interior volume than the
NX-class, being only 105m long (though Star Trek expert Bernard Schneider points out in a
well-written article on his website that it'd make much more sense design-wise at 140m). It was designed to compete with Romulan technology, being equipped with United Earth's first Warp-7 engine. Although it was fast for its time and decently armed, its design has often been considered one of the ugliest in Starfleet ship design history. However, in my opinion, its simplistic design is awesome, especially since it makes it much easier to build in Blockland!
Some IRL history: The Daedalus class was first featured on-screen as a model prop
in Sisko's office on Star Trek DS9. However, before that, ships of its class were mentioned by word in both TOS and TNG.
It's a ship with a lot of mystery and lack of information behind it's exact specifications, with many inconsistent statements made over the years about it in Trek. Therefore I have had a good deal of liberty by which to make my own version of the ship, with my own custom deflector dish and impulse engine design. However, most of my inspiration here for this ship's interior came from a Daedalus-class
RPG-X map from
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force, which is when and where I fell in love with this ship (My Daedalus class here is mainly based off of the design shown on that map). I am going to try to get STVOYEF working on my Windows 8.1 computer (though the game hates 64-bit operating systems and modern GPUs), and when I do I will be able to make much more progress on this ship (as I have forgotten the spirit of the ship's interior design, and that RPG-X map has it). For now all I will really be doing is revisions and renovations.
Anyways, enough talk. On to the pictures! Some lovey exterior shots:
Another lovey angle.
This picture shows off the lift on the warp nacelles by the pylons.
A view looking back from the sphere section. Let's head inside through that window on the right!
A view inside of the neck corridor. This is the only access route between the Sphere section and Engineering hull (I know, bad design, but it's unavoidable due to the ship's thin neck).
At the end of the corridor leading into the Engineering hull, we find a wall communicator and the door open. Let's go in!
Ah, so we are on D-Deck. This ship is not built to full scale, but on my version it has 6 decks.
The engineering hull corridor on D-Deck. Here we find two luxuriously large quarters (I'm debating whether these be for guests or crew; probably for the captain and 1 special guest).
Next we shall travel to E-Deck, Engineering Hull. This is the Engineering deck, containing vital ship equipment.
Environmental Control Room. Here the ship's various filtration systems, internal heating/cooling, and resource recirculation systems (for food and water) are managed.
Then we have Deflector Control! Here's what it looks like from the outside, with my cool custom deflector dish, and then what it looks like from the inside!
Next up we have the Science Lab. I run experiments here with events, and in the future it'll be useful for RPs, so it does have a practical purpose.
Now we enter Main Engineering! The second-best place on the ship besides the bridge! We'll start out with the alcove area, separated from the warp core area by some cool grating.
And now, the warp core bay itself! You'll notice there are grey racks on the walls, like shelves. These are actually a critical feature of the ship: Event racks! These will store 1x1 plate bricks that will control all the ship's vital functions, especially ones useful for making RPs on the ship as interactive as possible. The ship is going to be heavily evented when done, with a functioning VCE power system (so you can't just spam phasers or torcreepes without potentially draining all the power!) and a system for helping to support functionality of disasters that players can solve too!
A view of the warp core bay looking back towards the lower alcove area. The ship's large and secondary dedication plaque is adorned on the wall.
Leaving E-deck, we now travel one deck below to the bottom of the ship: F-Deck! Here, we have the Brig for storing prisoners or disorderly crewmen, Cargo Bay 2, Antimatter Storage Control, and the Aft Torcreep Bay. Unfortunately most of these rooms (save for Cargo Bay 2) are needing renovation or are WIP so I can't show them now.
A nice view of Cargo Bay 2. It's a little cozy, but this ship is kinda small anyway (compared to the other projects) so it's not much of an issue.
Let's go back outside for a moment to take a nice view from the back of the sphere section!
A sneak-peek of E-deck, Sphere section! This was one of the last parts I had completed before I last left this ship in 2012, and it's needing renovation, so all I can show you is the outside corridor.
Here is the ship's Shuttlepod Bay. I say "Shuttlepod Bay" instead of "Shuttlebay" because it's a very confined space, only able to fit 2 shuttlepods. This is normal in the ship's actual design. Remember, in Star Trek it was meant to be a cheap and quick-to-make ship, so they kinda cut corners when it came to ship size in favor of ship numbers. This first picture here is of the Shuttlepod-Bay control deck, which is actually technically part of D-deck but inaccessible from the forward section except by Turbolift.
Next is a nice shot of the shuttlebay from looking down on the main floor, which is considered to be on E-Deck. This room is actually very accurate to the shuttlebay shown on the RPG-X map that I have based this Daedalus class build off of.
And now we are at our final but one of our best shots, a DoF screenie of the ship's exterior outside the Shuttlepod Bay. You can see the ship's impulse engines and warp nacelles arranged quite nicely from here.
Thank you guys for your attention to this project, and I hope to see more people interested and checking on this in the future!
