10 minutes should be the minimum for dying of starvation. I've never had to eat so many burritos in a day.

If you're going to be afk for 5 minutes you might as well leave and rejoin the server.
thats really just too much of a waste of effort and people will have to keep rejoining the server every time they have to go do something. plus i dont want to have to disconnect and have people think im not on the server while im just going to go take a crap

yeah during internal testing we all had to play with build mode because hunger was such a god damn problem. we dont want to be subsistence farmers

Wait, I thought you guys said you weren't going to have hunger in this
  • dying from hunger is gone, as tophat said, dying from food is unnecessary and shouldn't be featured in something like a cityrpg. instead, food provides buffs such as moving more quickly or having more hp, making food a cool gameplay mechanic where criminals and police officers will be eating more food so they can perform better in battle

Wait, I thought you guys said you weren't going to have hunger in this
that was changed so a food economy would be possible because if foods only provided buffs and hunger was removed growing food would be mostly pointless. i didn't like how you just died on the spot in these city rpgs so instead you die slowly so you have a chance to purchase food

How is the bug fixing coming along?

I have a tip you probably already know, but to make sure -
Instead of restarting blockland after making changes to the code, you can update and execute functions while keeping the server up using exec('path to .cs file');

I would like to make the argument against the whole galactic foodstuff trading center.

You guys don't want this to feel grindy. That makes sense. However, if people never need to spend time building a really nice building for their food where people can go, they will spend less time overall on the server and the quality of the server will be overall stuffty. People won't make their buildings aesthetically pleasing to attract people, 'nor will they worry about getting to the server first (population potential) to find/buy the best lots on the server, which wouldn't matter if you built the map correctly.

I get your point, but I think we should test the server with the global food market before judging it. With or without the global market, farmers will probably build their lots to maximize the amount of crops and maximize defense from people stealing or killing their crops. This doesn't exactly encourage aesthetically pleasing buildings either.

holy stuff
What, too obvious? Had to make sure he knows lol. Or are you saying 'holy $&!@, that's a great tip'

Just a quick suggestion but how about having a tax on globally sold food and other products but still allow people to build shops with no tax applied. People can either buy food through global market fast and easy, or they can go over to the shops and buy them at a cheaper price. If you're starving and need food now you don't need to find an open shop, just buy through the market. If you want to stock up on food and save some money then go over to a shop and buy it there.

suburbia is 25,000+ lines long in the code. i think gyt knows how to exec();

only??? I have a utility that spits out 750+ .cs files!!
ayy lmao

Is the global market only for food or is it for all items, including weapons?
If it's for all items I guess there is no need to build shops. Thankfully there are other motives to make a lot, like so you can have a corpse processor, crafting brick, or to grow crops.

edit: can we get updates on bug fixes? let me know if you need help. fixing bugs is the worst part of scripting but will pay off

wow all this discussion is like trying to set up a REAL economy

ok since a lot of people are asking over steam suburbia will not be hosted until i get all the bugs fixed and since there are 8 pages of bugs that i have to fix. i'm exhausted right now because suburbia and school have been taking their toll on my life and i need to start making more room for school now since SAT's/ACT's/AP exams are in a few months for me. i do not know when all the bugs will be fixed or when i will find the time to fix them
