Author Topic: Internet privacy in the US is about to come to an end.  (Read 9012 times)

American politics are broken

instead of replacing the government with average joes why don't we just put in a group of average joes that law-passers are required to get an opinion from and publish publicly before passing a bill

then the government couldn't do stuff like this and we can't have that now can we

Wait so how exactly is this going to work? I can't really tell why this is so bad.

correct if wrong but what it supposedly means is:
government can somewhat freely look at your internet data

lol, just make a putsch and prevent it.

what?
explain
he wants us to argentina-style storm into the white house and attempt to murder the president(?)

what is funny is that the only way for reform is through a government that doesn't want reform. or you vote all the right people into congress (but corrupt government!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

and if people actually "rebel" they'll be marked as terrorists.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

So why would the government randomly choose my data to sort through rather than the other millions of American Internet users? Unless I'm buying or trafficking drugs or searching for illegal markets, research, or piracy, I don't see why I'd have a reason to care.

can someone explain to me whats actually bad about this bill

From what I've read CISA requires internet companies to pass data to the NSA and DND if it looks it may pose a 'cybersecurity threat'. It doesn't sound bad on paper, but the flaw is that 'cybersecurity threat' is extremely loosely defined and is theorized to allow information to be used for investigations in essentially any type of crime, cyber or not. The main issue with this really is that 1) It undermines privacy policies (because companies basically no long have to follow them) and 2) Way too much information will be shared due to the extremely loose definition.

you only oppose this bill because you're doing something illegal on the internet and dont want to get in trouble

what kind of non-threatening information could be shared, hypothetically?

i'm going to explain this in a way that anyone could understand:
you don't like people randomly barging into your room and looking through your stuff and taking pictures* even though you may not have been doing anything wrong, correct? that's what this bill is going to be doing.

*without just cause
