Author Topic: [TRIGGER WARNING] how does religion exist in educated first world countries?  (Read 29090 times)

I don't see the point in attesting there is or isn't a god without definitive proof.
I find the evidence for there being a god to be lacking, but I'm not certain enough to assert that there isn't one.

So I am agnostic. I don't see the harm in that.

More people have been murdered by the name of god.

Religious people are crazy and they will kill you if you question their faith.
That's 100%, undeniably true. I'm actually on my way to shove a knife through Tony's heart right now, and no amount of logic or science will stop me. That's because it's very absolutely clear and not a vast misconception that all religious people are crazy forgetwits who want to Jesus away sins with the power of a giant chaingun.

You don't sound like a cunt at all.

Aha, Mr. Tony up to his old japes.
I will pray for you, my friend.

it usually does bug me when people say they are 'agnostic'. its a bit of a cope-out, like you don't want to start an argument. it means 'you dont know if there is a god or not' but most of these people are just atheists who admit that there might be a god (like 0.1% chance). and in that case you should just call yourself atheist. because nobody can be 100% assured of their faith. agnostic could be used to say that you are questioning your faith strongly (like when planr had his moral conflict) but most of the time its atheists who dont want to take sides.

When there is no good evidence there is a god, and no good evidence there isnt a god (ruling out everything save there actually being a god). Why shouldn't you sit on the fence

people like jesus were trying to teach people to be nice and friendly to their brothers and neighbors

you're obviously baiting tony
you will reply to this with "what are you talking about" and drag it on for multiple pages

unfortunately, the Simple English Wikipedia doesn't yet have an article on cherry picking

That is, once again, one example which you're using to say that all religious people are killers.

Religion CAN make people murderous.

Religious people are not automatically crazy and murderous because of religion. That's wrong and you should know it.

I'm not saying all religious people are crazy. I'm saying that religion was built by crazy people.

How about the crusades then?

I'll take the bait and say that the crusades only killed ~2-5 million people over its 400 years in activity

and that's obviously less than the non religiously influenced world wars, or most politically-influenced civil wars in history

Ah yes, the biggest mistake in the history of the church.
Those were in the days when the Bible was still only in Latin, Greek and Hebrew. Nobody but the few educated people of the time had any idea what the Bible actually said.

Back in those days, if you were a religeous leader you could pretty much say whatever you want in the name of God and the poor masses would follow you. The masses were purposely misled by the powerful, and that is for dang sure not from the Bible.
You'd be hard pressed to find a sensable Christian now-a-days that will tell you that the crusades were of God or the Bible.

You forget the 6 million jews slaughtered because they have different religious beliefs.

Jews were also enslaved to build the pyramids because they had a different view of god.
