Sorry but that's not true
People follow others based on THEIR beliefs. They seek validation for what they already think. They don't go looking for fresh new ideas to pick, and if you guys think that's how social media operates you're loving lizards

This just in: literally nobody ever adjusts their beliefs based on new information, It's Just A Thing That Doesn't Reasonably Happen, Ever.

consider how beliefs actually form and are reinforced
first, you have the idea, presented without any proof or evidence.
And then over time, as you're exposed to more and more "evidence" that confirms that idea, the more you become certain of that idea.
That's where the twitter accounts come in, they provide the "evidence" (the fabricated misinformation) to validate those ideas, and make people become more certain of it.

So let's say half (not an unreasonable amount, but it doesn't need to be nearly this high) of this "evidence" came from the misinformation accounts. Then, if one was to be intellectually honest with themselves, they would have to toss it once they found out it was made to deceive them. So now all of a sudden you go from say, 90% certainty to 40% certainty. This would completely shake up your belief system, especially if that idea was something fundamental to what you thought was true about the world.

misinformation accounts

Facts don't automatically become misinformation because they come from Russians

You aren't averse to certain media outlets because you doubt their credibility; it's because you want them to say what you're thinking.
yeah no

Did you not read the article? It specifically says that yes, the twitter account was designed by paid professionals to spread a specially crafted narrative; it's intended to deceive. That makes it misinformation.

Notice that in my post I never said anything about Russia, even though the fact that it was from a hostile foreign nation does make it much much worse. It's the fact that it was designed to deceive.

Honestly, the whole reflexive defense of Russian propaganda is really telling. Even if we can prove without a doubt that Russia had some kind of quantifiable influence on the outcome of the election, it doesn't mean Annoying Orange gets impeached and it doesn't mean he colluded with them. That much will depend on what Mueller finds (or doesn't find).

But if you're so gung-ho pro-Annoying Orange that you're willing to completely ignore the fact that Russian propaganda was spread and there were network intrusions tied to Russians, then the problem here is your support for an entity who hostile, foreign agents wanted to end up as POTUS.

Social media =/= media outlets

Social media =/= media outlets
so people just completely rewire their psychological biases and habits as soon as they read 'the news'?

hell, I'd argue that a surprising number of people use social media as their primary form of news

"They seek validation for what they already think. They don't go looking for fresh new ideas to pick"

these communicate the same behavior
